As is known to all, the rapid changes in the physical environment of the ideological and political education have exerted great influence over the moral quality and education of human beings. The present study, in which literature investigation, systemic research, contradiction analysis and the combination of history and logic, etc are adopted as the main approaches, is mainly focused on the definition of and the research into the physical environment of the ideological and political education, leaving inadequacy in the study of theoretical basis, theoretical construction and existing problems. With the present study on this proposition being far from enough, we, on the other hand, believe that the study into this matter can not only promote the development of the theoretical research and enrich the theoretical system of the ideological and political education, but eliminate the negative influence of the change in the physical environment of the ideological and political education and facilitate the carrying out of the ideological and political education as well.In the first chapter, the author provides theoretical explanations of the physical environment of the ideological and political education. The concept, the features and the types of the physical environment of the ideological and political education find their place in this chapter, too. As the sum total of all the physical elements which affect the moral quality of human beings, the physical environment of the ideological and political education enjoys such features as visibility in existence, complexity in system, universality in influence and creativity. Visibility, as the main feature of existence of the physical environment of the ideological and political education, stipulates its unique way of existence. Complexity in system, which embodies the internal structure of the physical environment of the ideological and political education, stipulates its internal elements and logical structure. Universality in influence, as the main feature of the external influence of the physical environment of the ideological and political education, stipulates its implementation. Creativity, which is characterized as the optimization of the physical environment of the ideological and political education, proves the necessity and possibility of optimization. The types of the physical environment of ideological and political education can be analyzed from three dimensions, namely, the dimension of form, the dimension of time and the dimension of space. According to the dimension of form, the physical environment of ideological and political education can be divided as the natural environment and the social physical environment. According to the dimension of time, it can be divided as the historical physical environment, the realistic physical environment and the future physical environment. According to the dimension of space, it can be divided as the macro-level physical environment, the medium-level physical environment and the micro-level physical environment.The second chapter expounds on the theoretical basis of the theory of the physical environment of ideological and political education. Marxist theory of environment, Marxist dialectical theory of social existence and social consciousness and Marxist infusion theory, which constitute the theoretical basis of the physical environment of ideological and political education, guides the study in this field. Marxist theory of environment is, for the most part, a theory studying the dialectical relation between human beings and environment. Environment is created by human beings, and vice versa. Environment and human beings are unified in particular historical social practice. The theory that human beings are created by environment guides the study of the influence the physical environment of ideological and political education has on the cultivation of moral quality and education of human beings, while the theory that environment is created by human beings guides the theoretical study of the creation and optimization of the physical environment of ideological and political education. The theory that environment is created by human beings, and vice versa demonstrates that the interaction between the moral quality of human beings and the physical environment is fulfilled by social practice. The dialectical theory of social existence and social consciousness, as the theoretical basis of Marxist materialism, is mainly composed of theory that social consciousness which enjoys relative independence is determined by social existence and vice versa. The dialectical theory of social existence and social consciousness guides the study on the physical environment of the ideological and political education. The theory that social existence determines the social consciousness stipulates the influence the physical environment has on the development of moral quality. Marxist infusion theory, in which such components as the necessity of the theory, the possibility of the theory, the subjects, the objects, the conditions, the purposes of infusion are put forward clearly, holds that social consciousness is something infused into the proletarian struggle. Infusion theory provides great significance in guiding the study of the physical environment of the ideological and political education. Infusion embodies the essence of the ideological and political education; the physical environment of infusion embodies the external physical environment in which such physical carriers as newspapers and magazines are adopted.A review of the development of the study on the physical environment of the ideological and political education finds its way in the third chapter. The development, if we put the physical environment of the ideological and political education as the particular category, can be divided into two periods, namely, the period of formation and the period of development. The period before the year of 1992 when the concept of the physical environment of the ideological and political education was put forward is, generally, termed as the period of formation in which the shift of the focus of the work of both the Party and that of the central government together with the implementation of the reform and opening-up to the outside world as a result of which great changes took place in the fields of economy, society and spiritual culture provide this concept with the background of time. In this period, such activities as the study on the economic environment of the ideological and political education, the study on the relation between the ideological and political education as the main approach to build a nation with civility and physical satisfaction, and the initial theoretical study of the physical environment of the ideological and political education. The period after the year of 1992 to now is, generally, termed as the development period in which great changes took place in the economic and physical environment of the ideological and political education. During this period, the socialist market economy was identified and developed. The development of advance technology, network technology in particular, is the major embodiment of the technological environment of the ideological and political education, and it, on the other hand, provided the theory of physical environment with important theoretical background. The theoretical development of the physical environment of the ideological and political education is mainly shown in the constant enhancement and development of the theoretical system. The concept the physical environment of the ideological and political education was constantly improved, its systemic positioning further discussed, its influence and construction further probed and particular form studied.It is in the fourth chapter which explains the influence and the reason of the development of moral quality and the ideological and political education that the influence of the physical environment of the ideological and political education is analyzed. The author holds that the physical environment of the ideological and political education affects the thoughts of human beings. The physical environment of the ideological and political education can, on the one hand, promotes human beings to form and develop correct thoughts, guides human beings to transform their wrong thoughts, and facilitate the sublimation of the correct thoughts, while on the other hand, it can produce certain negative effects, among which some inevitable uncertainties will hinder the formation of correct thoughts, transform the corrects thoughts into wrong thoughts, even worsen the influence of the wrong thoughts. The author also holds that the physical environment of the ideological and political education affects the ideological and political education. The practice and the theoretical study of the ideological and political education produce positive effects in that they guarantee a smooth process of the ideological and political education, consolidates the validity of the ideological and political education and stimulates the ideological and political education, but negative effects arise when those improper physical environment hinders the carrying out of the ideological and political education, as a result of which the validity of the education is weakened and the further study of the education theory in this field harmed. Generally speaking, many factors contribute to the formation of the negative effects of the physical environment of the ideological and political education. The first one, to cite a few among them, is the remoteness and the irrational development of the natural environment. To be more specific, the geographical remoteness, environmental pollution, ecological imbalance and the safety hazards in the physical environment. The second one is the lagging behind in the construction of the physical environment of the ideological and political education. To be more concrete, the economic gap between different regions, the disharmony of landscape construction and the lacking of infrastructures, etc. The third point in this regard is the negative influence over the technology of the physical environment. Namely, the complexity of the mass-media environment which causes negative effects on the thoughts of human beings, and the lacking of advanced educational technology which is recognized as the main factor that hinders the development of the ideological and political education; the problems in the main body of the physical environment, the misunderstanding of the main body of the education, the difference in the personal values towards environment and the incapability to become adequately involved into certain circumstances.Finally, this dissertation studies, in the fifth chapter, on the optimization of the physical environment of the ideological and political education. In view of the existing problems in the physical environment, the optimization, by researching into the objectives, principles, concrete measures, ways of optimization and evaluation of the method adopted, is aimed to build up practice to adjust and improve particular situations. The objectives of the optimization can be identified as three-fold, namely, the direct objective which is to facilitate the harmonious development of the system of the ideological and political education environment; the indirect objective which is to intensify the result of the ideological and political education; and the final objective of promoting the free and all-round development of human beings. The optimization is also supposed to follow the principles of humanism, resonance, validity and development. To achieve the optimization of the physical environment of the ideological and political education, the following main measures should be adopted. Firstly, the awareness of optimization and the ability of the main body engaging in the he ideological and political education should be further improved. Reasonable thoughts on optimization should be erected to guide the students fit into and transcend the physical environment. Secondly, the scientific development of the socio-economic environment should be promoted to ensure a civilized and rapid development of the physical environment. Thirdly, the development of the educational resources in the society and institutions of learning should be further carried out to achieve a better result. The last but not the least, the development and management of the mass-media should be strengthened to guarantee constant technological development, consolidate standard management and steer the way information transmits. The author also holds that different approaches of optimization should be adapted to suit particular situations. The approach of elimination and transformation can effectively eliminate and transform the negative effects. The approach of utilization and promotion can effectively facilitate the construction of the physical environment and enlarge the range of influence. The approach of creation and installation is aimed to make up the vacancies which are unavailable in reality but needed in the ideological and political education.
