| Resource-based city (RBC) of China is a traditional research realm of Geography, however the emphasis of research shifted with the times. Before 1980s,the research based on the resource explorement, emphasizing on the evaluation of resource conditions and industry distribution; after that it turned to the research of the developing diversity, whose emphasis became the adjustment of industry structure and the sustainable development. On the basis of the fore-going research, the dissertation, from the relationship between region and city, looks on the Resource-based city as some particular type and the core and carrier of region sustainable development. Then the dissertation systematically discussed how the Resource-based cities develop under the current conditions. The dissertation is divided into four chapters:In the first chapter I gave the category and the concept of RBC .As one particular type, the classified standard and the research category are always vague. Which is due to the faint understanding of connotation of Chinese RBC, especially to the system, and the relationship between resource and the city of RBC. For that reason, the dissertation first aims to its definition then, I found Chinese RBC is essentially a type of Originality; its resource means woods and minerals, and the definition of its category depends on the special time and space conditions. Following that, a classifying system of Originality is established. Based on mat, I gave thespecific definition of Chinese RBC's category and took 63 cities------included in 5categories (all above county) as RBC, which settled the problem of vague category.Following is the research of the developing characteristics of Chinese RBC. Because of the vague category and the times limits, the former research about RBC characteristics are always specific and static, including some vague and not accurate, some that even took one as all. In the dissertation, the research is based on dynamic analysis, using normative statistic analysis and specific analysis, regeneralizing the characteristic of Chinese RBC. On that the dissertation concluded found different RBC had some otherness on the forming background, but has the characteristics of passive and outbursting in its forming phase; Despite its different developing conditions and phases, it is always curved the phased change of population, the oneness of industry structure, the relaxity of space and low efficiency of its development. And the specific difference of city function reflects the trend of its function's persisting shift. RBC has the characteristics of single specialization in region function division Based on normative demonstration analysis, the dissertation aims to find the current state of RBC development and its difference, to set up the background of following research.The 3rd part emphasized on the research of Chinese RBC developing mechanism. Mechanism is the materialization of developing law; to steer it is to control it. The former research doesn't function much, mainly due to its specialization, which is that the former research is only based on the problem itself, lacks of the profound research of its mechanism. On the detailed analysis of the 2nd chapter, and curving the difference of conditions and developing phase of RBC, I find the duple dynamics and duple mechanism of Chinese RBC, then have two phasical model: base model and structure shifting model. After a delicate depicture of their different characters and developing mechanism, I found three endogentic variables controlling RBC development: Resource, Location and Dimensions. It can help our further researchand the proposals to make it more practical.The last part is the research of developing trend and controlling policy of Chinese RBC, which is the appliance in the practice. Fust, the macro environment and the main affecting factor to Chinese RBC are discussed, and then point that under the current mechanism Chinese RBC is to be peripheralized, especially to some poor-conditioned cities that will face...
