This dissertation has studied on the thoughts of China's sustainabledevelopment and how to realize sustainable development. The thoughtsof China's sustainable development are expounded as follows: First, Theauthor has made a system assessment on the procedure of the formationof the thought of sustainable development in China in Chinese academeand summarized and commented on its different concepts and principles.Second, this is the first paper in the academia that has reviewed the originof the thoughts of sustainable development and the views of Westerneconomists and Marxist economists towards it. Third, 43 researchprograms supported by national research fund on the study of sustainabledevelopment in China and more than 600 academic works concerned,which cover a comprehensive scope of the main achievements on theformation of economics of sustainable development, China's strategy ofsustainable development, its assessment and its approaches of realization,have been classified in a systematic way. This dissertation analyses the mechanism of realizing sustainabledevelopment and points out that: (1) the essential elements of sustainabledevelopment involved are population, resources and environment; (2) theinfluential factors of sustainable development involved are science andtechnology, institution and culture; and (3) the recycle economy and thesustainable consumption are microcosmic bases for sustainabledevelopment. The mechanism of realizing sustainable development at alllevels is the key to the goals of sustainable development. To achieve thesegoals and to meet the emerging challenges, the framework of sustainabledevelopment needs to be strengthened at the international, regional andnational levels, as these are inextricably linked and mutuallyinterdependent.
