Research On The Relationship Between Personality, Coping Style, Situation And Criminal Offence In Woman Criminals

About 925 female prisoners took part in the study, and the crime types included drug trafficking, theft, violence, economic crime, deception, heresy that broke the law. Prostitution was also included. By using EPQ, Carver's coping inventory, social support inventory and negative life events inventory which we developed, We examined the female criminals' characters in personality , coping style and the situation they had confronted before having been thrown into the prison (The situation we chose were negative life events and social support). We were especially interested in the relationship between these characters and criminal offence in woman criminals. So deep studies had been explored, and some characters of the woman criminals in personality, coping style and situation that high related to woman crime types and criminal offence depth were found. At the same time, about 272 male prisoners entered the research as contrast subjects, and their characters are also examined. Finally we got the results as follows:1. The characters of woman criminals' personality, coping style and situation were significantly different from that of man criminals', and also different from that of normal women's. Within the woman criminals, the characters of woman criminals of every crime type was significantly different from each other.2. The characters of woman criminals' personality, coping style and situation had different influence in helping woman criminals selecting the type of crime. Personality, coping style and social support had significant influence except negative life events. Each crime type had its logistic regression model that was quite distinctive from others.3. The characters of woman criminals' personality, coping style andsituation had different effect in woman criminal offence depth. Personality, coping style and negative life events had significant effect except social support. Among many factors of woman criminals' personality , coping style, and negative life events , 12 factors were identified as significantly important factors to woman criminal offence depth, and they entered in linear regression equation in sequence, having different effect. Furthermore, in every woman crime type, it had different equation for its criminal offence depth. Then, we also found the big differences between female and male in factors and factor orders which entered in their criminal offence depth equations.
