Since 1990's, as the socialist marketing economy was generally established and the transition of economy and society in China, several great changes have taken place in urban society in China. The first change is that the division of the sections of society has been more and more clear because of the formation of the multi-elements economy. That is to say, the urban social structure has changed greatly. The second change is that urban community development, as the most important way of social organization, has been treated as important as economic development. That is to say, the organization and management structure of urban society in China has changed greatly. The third change is that the spatial structure of urban society, especially the residential structure has changed greatly because of the changes of social structure and real-estate development. All these changes in urban social organization and management have focused on the smallest unit in space-community.The thesis, taking the community development as a cultural tradition, paid more attention to the process of community development in the beginning chapters: How did the western urban community theories form? What are the profound impacts of these differences on modern urban community management in China? The thesis, taking a case study on the 232 communities in Tianjin Hexi District, which is one of the downtown areas of Tianjin, aim at the characteristics of the changes in urban spatial organized structure; analyze the tendency that how urban people gather spatially, how residents choose their houses and apartments, and how different communities have different needs; find out what are the new problems proposed to urban community spatial management because of the division of the sections of society, the changes of the organization and management structure of urban society, and the changes of social structure and real-estate development. The thesis studies ten issues on urban community spatial organization and management in China, which we have to face and can't be avoided. On the basis of the above studies, the writer proposed an idea of establishing the "self-improvement" concept system and "classification" operating system of urban community spatial organization and management.
