Mao Zedong's Thought of Social Development is a sum-up on Mao Zedong's ideas and methods concerning what kind of society should be established in China and how to build this society, especially on what the socialism is and how to build it. Basing on the domestic conditions of China and being highly concerned about the changes of the political and economic situation in international community, Mao Zedong's Thought of Social Development was gradually formed in the both the era of "war and revolution" and the era of "peace and development". The core of Mao Zedong's Thought of Social Development is how to destroy the old world, especially how to build up the new one. The direct theoretic source of Mao Zedong's Thought of Social Development is Marxist theory of social development, whose influence to the theory is generally in three aspects: the ideal and faith, the world outlook and the methodology of the theory, and the concrete details and the practice of the theory. Besides, the Chinese traditional culture also had a great effect on Mao Zedong's Thought of Social Development: the ideas on the "Great Harmony" (the Chinese Utopia) in traditional culture made an effect on Mao Zedong's choosing socialism and communism as the goal of Chinese social development; the ideas on equality in traditional culture prompted Mao Zedong's pursuit after the socialist equality in the fields of politics and economy; and the humanist ideas in traditional culture affected Mao Zedong to develop the idea "to serve people and rely on people". In Mao Zedong's mind, revolution is only the means, construction and development should be the purpose. The victory of the national democratic revolution prepared a good institutional circumstance for the development of Chinese society. And after the foundation of the socialist system in China, Mao Zedong did a great deal of theoretical exploration and practical innovation on the brand-new topic: how to build and develop socialism. In the early days after the foundation of the People's Republic of China, Mao Zedong imitated the Soviets model. In the middle of the 1950's, Mao Zedong attempted to break through the restraint of the Soviets model, and began to explore independently the road of Chinese socialism development. In this process of exploration, Mao Zedong advanced a series of constructive ideas on Chinese political construction, economic system reformation and cultural development, and elementarily formed theChinese model of socialism development with Chinese characteristics. And Mao Zedong also thought about the process of the development of the socialist society of China from theoretical angle. He divided the development process of social society into two stages: the under-developed socialist society and the considerate developed socialist society. And after a thoroughgoing research on the motive force of the development of the socialist society, Mao Zedong put forwards his complete view on the "power system" of the socialist society, which consisted of three parts: the view of motive force of needs, the view of motive force from the fundamental contradiction, and the view of motive force from the spirit field. And furthermore, Mao Zedong put forwards his design on the road of modernization with Chinese characteristics, the thought of implementing "the open policy" based on sticking to the principle of independence and self-reliance, and the famous theory of "Three Worlds". These ideas have something in common with the Modernization Theory, Dependency Theory, World System Theory, which belong to the theoretic system of modern social development. However, they also have a strong Chinese color. Exploration, idealism, and popularity are the outstanding characteristics of Mao Zedong's Thought of Social Development. The road of Mao Zedong's exploration on Development of Chinese socialism is not a leveled one, and the experience we learned on the road is a precious wealth to us. The sparkling side of the theory is an indispensable part of Marxist Theory of Social Development and Mao Zedong Thou...
