Research and Development (R&D) professionals are the main body of technology andproduct innovation, which become the sticking point for the development of enterprise. Sohow to enhance the enthusiasm of R&D professionals' and the performance of R&D is anurgent issue. Statistics or demonstration method adopted is with some limits in this domain.However the new discipline and technology of research such as artificial intelligence andqualitative simulation provide a new way. R&D makes progress with risk and the achievement of R&D will appear after a longtime of R&D process, which makes it difficult to evaluate the performance of R&D.Therefore, a new conception called as the vigor of R&D team is introduced, which is a part ofthe performance of R&D team. After the analysis of team behavior drive power, teamaggregation, team decisions ability and team innovation power, a hierarchical evaluationmodel of the vigor of R&D team is established, in which the appraiser's recognition degree isconsidered through improving of the set pair analysis (SPA) method. It is pointed out that the qualitative simulationmethod which is applied for na?ve physicssystem, such as Kuipers' qualitative differential equation and Forbus' qualitative processtheory, can not directly applied mechanically to the research of behavior motivation system,through the comparison of the difference in knowledge type, the method to deal time, theengender and reasoning of behavior when applying qualitative simulation to them. So processknowledge based qualitative simulation method is constructed in this paper based onqualitative mathematics and model-decomposing method, with the corresponding method ofknowledge description and operators designed and the simulating steps provided. In thequalitative simulation method, the whole model is separated to some processes, and theknowledge in each process is set to four components classify as factors, preconditions,quantity-relations and quantity-influences, and the whole simulation result comes form thesimulation of the components in order. In this paper, the qualitative simulation model of R&D team behavior motivation isestablished, in which the affections and counteract of team agglomeration to team IIIperformance is token into account. After that, the affections of goal guiding to the R&D teambehavior is analyzed using process knowledge based qualitative simulation, and it is foundthat to avoid the system fall into bad cycle when the outside environment is disadvantageous,goal guide should strengthen when outside environment is advantageous. After the analysis of the demand characteristics of R&D professional's such asmembership demand, self-achievement demand, ability development demand, communicationand cooperation demand and so on, the model of R&D professional individual behaviormotivation qualitative simulation and the corresponding knowledge database are constructed.The affections of the variationof rewards value to the R&D professional individual behaviormotivation system under the following situations are studied through qualitative simulationwith all factors in neutral state at the initial stage: when the R&D performance matches to thevariation of rewards value; motivation institution reform is stagnant; when rewards valuefluctuate with enhanced rewards value at the first stage; when rewards value fluctuate withreduced rewards value at the first stage; and when the R&D professionals' self-achievement isconsidered. And it is found that R&D team supervisor should make great efforts to makerewards value match with R&D performance, for the system dissipation exits in the system,and the R&D professionals' self-achievement demand will stimulate R&D professionalbehavior system into benign states.
