To establish competitive advantage, enterprises need right product strategies which require not only in the existing market through technology improvement on products but also technology innovation and market cultivation at uncertain technology and market. Continuous innovation aims at innovation on existing market such as quality improvement, cost reduction and capability optimization. Discontinuousinnovation refers to innovation in new market via potential user value realization and new market cultivation in order to achieve better market position and higher profit margin. The target and core tasks of the both are quite different and as a result the R&D management of the innovation are also different. Research on discontinuous innovation is not as sufficient as research on continuous innovation. Systematic researches on discontinuous innovation are expected.This could be summarized as how to obtain the potential demand of future product and how the potential demand reflect in the R&D process before the new product is launched to create the new market. This is related to how the enterprises discover tacit knowledge on product value from clients and how the client potential demand translate into new product effectively in the R&D process. Collaboration between different interest target enterprises and users, and information communication and support tools ensuring collaborative R&D are also involved.In view of knowledge and collaboration, the main issures of discontinuous innovation are analyzed firstly. And then, the concept of vertical collaboration on R&D has brought forward which indicates that enterprises could understand the tacit knowledge of future market in the collaboration with lead users combined with existing technology and market to form new technology and market knowledge and design products satisfying potential needs and create new market.Base on that, discontinuous innovation's requirements on R&D process and necessary of building collateral knowledge transformation and knowledge channel between enterprises and users, most especially lead users, have been construed. Further on, the process of vertical collaboration on knowledge channel has also been discussed. To found an expanded R&D-marketing interface management at the core of connecting external special organization has been suggested. Uninfluenced and distributive feature in the enterprise-user collaboration are analyzed and the construction of R&D information system based on multi-agent system and knowledge portals has been probed for enterprise-user collaborative product R&D.
