Since the Reform and Opening to the Outside World, NPOs in China have undergone an unprecedented rapid development up till now, However, particularly during the 1990s, a number of cases of NPO wrongdoings came to public attention in China through the print media; hence, good governance of nonprofit organizations has become a great challenge and a new task.The dissertation emphasizes reasonable and legitimate nonprofit governance structures, which draws useful experiences from the general corporate governance. Only better nonprofit governance can guarantee high performance and accountability to stakeholders and public. The idea of the dissertation helps 1) the reform and transition of China's governmental functions; 2) to provide a base for constructing regime frames for NPO development and to promote a legislation for NPOs' better governance environment; and 3) the healthy development and canonical construction, especially to build up the accountability of the NPOs for the public by ways of a reasonable and legitimate nonprofit governance structure.The research of the dissertation combines several ways and several sciences together, such as a thorough literature search, a normative approach along a case study, the science of management, the science of law, politics and social science, and others.
