Research On Intergenerational Justice

Since human society comes into middle period of 20 century, with the development of technology, the abilities which present generations affect and change themselves, nature and remote future generations have been to the extent that cannot be reversed. The behaviors of present generations not only improve the living conditions of themselves and future generations but also cause many problems, including the expansion of population, exhaust of resources, nucleus crisis, environmental pollution and germ-line Engineering. These problems have inevitably affected the interests of remote future generations and the whole human being. So, a kind of justice which spans the dimension of time is needed.This kind of justice is the intergenerational justice. The nature of intergenerational justice is how to fairly distribute the different societal and natural resources between present generations and remote future generations.The people all around the world have only an earth. The earth is the only lifeboat of present people around world and our posterity. By deeply understanding the meaning of intergenerational justice, we must build up a kind of moral and legal ideas globally to protect the vital and developmental space of the remote future generations and to promote the global technological cooperation and environmental protection. The presently increasing problems of zoology, energy sources and the harm of remote future generations also demand the Chinese to clearly understand the meaning of intergenerational justice not only in theory and in practice. These all demand us to analyses and justify the necessity and the possibility of intergenerational justice in theory and to design the legal systems to realize intergenerational justice in practice.
