The "new village community," a concept corresponding with and different from the traditional small peasant village community, is a new type of village community based on "nonagricultural" economy. It consists mainly of "industrialized" "new village-type communities" and "post-industrialized" "new village-type communities." The focus of this study is the village community, a "post-industrialized" "new village-type communities." Therefore, this is a study of the special type of the existing "new village community," that is, a case study of the urban village community.Along the line of thought of "natural order" and "local resources", this study tries to clarify the inner logic and function of the urban village community against the background of urbanization. Theoretically, the author tries to make clear that urban village community is a social organization with multi-serviceability and rich social resources such as social funds. The urban village community, which has both historical continuity and contemporary viability, is established on the base of non-agricultural economy in the process of urbanization and under the social circumstances that both industry and occupation have been transformed and the geographical locations of villages "removed" into cities. The resource value and function are reflected in the dynamic process of complete urbanization, that is, the urban village community is the unique field where the interests and rights of the special "villager" groups who have entered cities lie and the "villager" groups and their communities strive for development and realization of urban harmonization. The unique community embodying the logic of action of this special social group is the most convenient intermediate and "bridge" for "peasants" to become city dwellers and "rural communities" to turn into urban communities under the circumstances of the great contrast of a strong Government and weak "peasant" groups. This dissertation consists of eight chapters and the contents of each chapter are as follows.Chapter 1 is the introduction to this dissertation.
