A Study On Moral Selection Education In University

In the moral education of the university students, the major dilemma lies in the actual effect of the moral education. The absence of moral selection education is the main reason, which causes the problem of actual effect in the moral education. There is a long-standing mistaken concept of cognition and practice concerning free choice of subjects for moral education among university moral educators. Due to the fact that the students have contradictory ideas in moral cognition, moral judgment and moral practice, the paper suggests the main approach to enhance the actual effects of the moral education at university should be to provide proper guidance to students in their selection of moral practice. Based on some theoretical research and practice, this paper proposes a brand new mode for moral education, i.e. the moral selection education in university. Centering on the selection of moral education, this paper has conducted historical investigation in Chinese and western cultures and explained the modern concept in respect of moral selection education. China has such traditional ideologies of morality as "Human beings are born good" and "Human beings are born vicious", "Yi-Li "(ethics and economic gains) and "Li-Yu " (Rationality and Desire)", and the ideal thought of "harmony of man and nature". All these traditional ethic cultures have profound significance in rational consideration of anthropology, key conflicts and diversified purposes of human beings in moral education, and therefore, they are worth being inherited. While such western ideas as Rationalism, Empiricism, Irrationalism and Existentialism have referential significance in reasonable analyzing the possibility, reality, necessity and diversity of selection oriented moral education. The division of Chinese and western ethical cultures and the tendency to communicate between them have a remarkable revelation in rationally identifying the nationality-oriented position and observing international prospect in moral education. The exploration and readjustment of those original concepts of moral education from home and abroad has laid a solid historical and cultural foundation for the proposal of moral selection education. The theoretical foundation of moral selection education has been systematically considered on the basis of the two philosophic propositions, which are the Free Will and Determinism as well as Freedom and Necessity. Free Will is the fundamental proposition of moral philosophy and the logical starting point of moral selection education. The Free Will of the moral education has given a definite answer to the basic question of "Is it possible?" in moral selection education. The relationship between freedom and necessity is the theoretical basis of moral selection education, which is the dialectical unity of moral freedom and moral responsibility in essence. The ultimate destination of moral selection education is the comprehensive and free development of the moral educatees. The major question of "How to select" has been well answered by the relationship between moral responsibility and moral freedom. The moral selection education mechanism of coupling and interaction has been systematically established at both personal and social levels. The individual psychological system of moral selection education has been established by means of selective directions of moral awareness and moral schema. The social readjustment mechanism of moral selection education has been built through restrictions on moral principles, the guidance of social awards and punishment, the influence of moral atmosphere, the supervision of public opinion and the promotion of moral education. On the basis of the research on the tendency towards convergence and similarity, an organic interactive mechanism of moral selection education has been established focusing on the socialization of individual ethics and the individualization of social ethics. On the basis of the systematic analysis of moral conflicts and moral selections, this paper has discovered that the principle for the university students to make selections of moral education relies on the proper guidance, the stratified moral standards and the orientation of moral values of the university students. This paper has analyzed the fact that the realization of moral selection education in university is to make moral selections when meeting moral conflicts, to improve oneself in moral decision, to perfect oneself in moral upgrade and to finally walk out of predicament. On the basis of systematic analysis of principles for moral selection education in terms of its aims and means, the moral perfection of individuals and the society as well as the integration of moral integrity and happiness, this article has put forward four major modes of moral selection education such as emotion-oriented mode, pervasion-oriented mode, environment-oriented mode and interaction-oriented mode. To provide a brand new viewpoint in offering answers tosuch substantial practical questions as actual effects of moral selection education, a series of valuable theoretical explorations have been conducted concerning questions such as how to let students make selections by themselves and how to make proper and ideal selections in moral education. The studies also cover issues concerning "Is it possible to make a selection", "Are you able to make selections" and "Are you good at making proper decisions". Meanwhile, such aspects as how to restore one's original state, how to find freedom of the moral educatees, how to find one's position in society and how to identify the reality have also been taken into consideration in this paper.
