The topic of this paper falls into the problem area of the development of pedagogy. It reviewed different approaches. First, it reviewed the meta-pedagogy and discovered that this approach was the reecho of the traditional science philosophy in the educational research domain. Then it putted forward the history study of pedagogy. But it was pitiful that the traditional research emphasized particularly to the outer history of pedagogy, i.e. studies beyond the on tic pedagogy. It was natural to put forward the history study of pedagogy based on the knowledge morphology, i.e. studies on the inner logic development of the pedagogic objective knowledge.The knowledge morphology means exploring the morphological relationship of the pedagogic objective knowledge. The analyzing framework includes three dimensions, that is, static structure, dynamic development and problem area. The analyzing unit is the pedagogic model which comprises different theory components. The pedagogic model is embodied in the pedagogic prototypes. This paper studied four pedagogic prototypes, that is, Comenius's pedagogy which is the beginning of the formation period of pedagogy subject and Herbart's pedagogy which is the terminal of this period, and Dewey's pedagogy which is one of the prototypes of scientism pedagogy and Bollnow's pedagogy which is one of the prototypes of humanism pedagogy.The fruit of this paper is rich. First, it tracked the inner logic of the western pedagogy based on the knowledge morphology. The history of western pedagogy might be looked as a series of footnotes to the problem area, i.e. can virtue be taught. This problem area had experienced all kinds of transform, such as differentiation, translation, cohesion, update, etc.. The overall answer to the problem area was the Buildung tradition of western pedagogy.
