Math word problems are an important part of school mathematics education. Whether students applied mathematical knowledge acquired in mathematics teaching to solve real-lief problems or not can be usually viewed as a primary measure to evaluate whether they have attained the basic standard for mathematics literacy. The modern progress of research on word problems in the area of problem solving pays more attention to not only the process of word problem solving in order to ascertain how it could be understood and solved effectively form the cognitive process, but also the factors impacted on word problem solving, especially exploring the function of meta-cognition and belief on solving it However, there is ample research evidence in the literature that most pupils often can not effectually solve word problems and experience difficulties and failure when solving it. Attempts were made to systematically isolate the factors that determined what made problems more or less difficult for pupils solving word problems form the structure of it, word- problem -solving instruction, classroom learning environment, students' mathematics knowledge .ability, learning behavior and beliefs , and so on in many exploratory studies. The emphasis of this studies using the cognitive psychology perspective on word problem solving is on trying to ascertain what pupils in fact do when they solve problems, thus to understand students activities and explain their mental structures during problem solving. This dissertation is to explore student performance of meta-cognitive behavior (MB) in word problem solving and to investigate the effects that student belief about solving word problem has on meta-cognitive behavior. The performance of MB was weighed form the quantity and quality of MB and the student beliefs about word problem solving was restricted especially to the self-confidence and persistence on solving word problem. When examining the MB, one gets a better understanding of the ways in which they serve to enhance and propel the problem solving process. So mathematics value of this research is to understand pupils more thinking character during solving problem form psychologic perspective. To examine influence of beliefs...
