The God Parade, as one of the traditional temple fair activities, refers to such a kind of folk belief activity that the Statue of God carried by its believers cruises according to certain route, along with various folk performances.There are several different names of this activity among which'God Parade'is widely used in Shaoxing area. Therefore Performances of God Parade is used to refer to those folk performances of the parade. This Doctoral Dissertation is to do a deep research on the Shun God Parade in Shaoxing, to reconstruct its performance tradition and to discuss the new trends appearing during the process of its reconstruction.The performances can not be separated from the rite of God Parade centering on the belief of Shun God and has experienced a long history of development. With the common features passed down from history, Shun God Parade also features in the local characteristics. From this kind of view, our research would be launched from both macro and micro aspects of view.The performances of Shun God Parade has been rooted in its specific space deeply and consist of many different kinds of artistic symbols. Through a long history of artistic practice, it has formed its unique tradition of performance expressing the concept consciousness of local people and their life ideas. By establishing the relation between performances and life contexts, we describe the multiple compound spaces in which the performances have rooted, reconstruct the model of artistic skills and people's ideas behind.Finally, we would discuss the new changes appearing during the process of its reconstruction comparing with the tradition, and predict its trend of development. Therefore, we hope we can accumulate some practical experience for better protection.
