The source of enterprise competitive advantage has been hot topic that scholars research on and inquire into. The enterprise intellectual capital theory, which arises in1990s, is the latest one on source of enterprise competitive advantage. In enterprise intellectual capital studies, the formation of enterprise intellectual capital becomes the key point, and the most effective and widely accepted one is to study on the formation of enterprise intellectual capital from the perspective of enterprise social capital. Human relationship, which is part of social capital, is what the Chinese business men care more, so it is highly significant to make relevant study in the context of China. Furthermore, relevant model was put forward by Nahapiet and Ghoshal in1998. Although this model has been accepted by many scholars at present, there are few relevant empirical studies and none in China. In this paper, the relevant empirical study is done by utilizing firsthand data of enterprises in China getting from questionnaire survey to refine this model and get relevant conclusions.Firstly, the literature concerning enterprise intellectual capital and enterprise social capital is reviewed to master the inadequate points of studies before from summarizing relevant definitions, features, classification, and measurement. Secondly, the model proposed by Nahapiet and Ghoshal is refined to get relevant assumptions. Thirdly, questionnaire is designed and modified, and then questionnaire survey is made to get the firsthand data to go on the empirical study. Furthermore, mathematical statistics and structural equation model are utilized to draw models, calculate indicators and data, and make analysis. Finally, assumptions are proposed and refined to get conclusions. Seen from the empirical study results,(1) As a resource existing in the relationship network of members in a company, enterprise social capital is an important intangible asset in the form of social interaction, trust and shared vision. Meanwhile, enterprise intellectual capital is another important intangible asset, which benefits the development and performance of enterprises. These two intangible assets mutually influence each other in enterprises to poster the enterprise development. Their interactions are shown in model1and model2.(2) The theoretical model of Nahapiet and Ghoshal is partly proved. Some conclusions here are opposite to their assumptions, which are attributed to Chinese psychological features and culture characteristics.(3) Based on the survey data, model2is proposed as well to make opposite theoretical verification, which results similarly. In conclusion, the interactions of enterprise social capital and enterprise intellectual capital are verified with different indicators and channels.
