Metropolitan is an advanced form of urban development. It is not only improving economic growth of local region, but also generating a profound influence to its surrounding region, metropolitan is playing a essential and unique role at present, as the global economic and culture is getting more closing. New York metropolitan as one of the top five, its influence not within the New York metropolitan, while it has played a great role in promoting overall economic development of the United States, and even become one of the engines of economic development around the world. New York metropolitan has experienced economic prosperity and recession in the history of its development, the planning and response strategy has taken at different times are the model of other metropolitan around the world, its development experiences and lessons are worth learning. This article focus on the New York Metropolitan for summarizing experiences and lessons of its development by the spatial structure, industrial structure, transport infrastructure development and the metropolitan area of coordination and management mechanism analysis, and compare with other several major metropolitans , trying to find the common characteristics for the development of metropolitan that will help China, But with the development of metropolitan area, metropolitan area inevitable presented many problems, so study of development law of the Metropolitan,the problems and trends that will effect the construction of domestic metropolitan area.The study is structured as follows:Chapter one introduces the basic concepts, framework, and principal innovations of the study. Chapter two studies the basic theoretical for the metropolitan area and reviews the latest related literatures study by domestic and foreign scholars. Chapter three describes and analyzes the formation, evolution and development based on the features and formation conditions of metropolitan areas.Chapter four studied the formation and development of New York Metropolitan, including the three aspects: first, the development of the New York metropolitan area is based on two channels, one from a defined region of space ; another is the regional Planning Association which played a significant role to New York Metropolitan; second, analyze the New York metropolitan area's position in the U.S. economy based on comparison with inside and outside region on GDP and per capita data depend on the absolute and relative analysis; third, compare with world's top five metropolitan from planning perspective to find out best option of metropolitan development.Chapter five focused on the relationship between the Metropolitan Spatial Structure and Economic Development of New York metropolitan, in general, includes three parts: first, analyze the elements of the New York Metropolitan Spatial Structure and its basic characteristics; second, analyze evolution path and dynamic mechanism of New York Metropolitan Spatial Structure based on the evolution of U.S. Spatial Structure and the New York metropolitan area ,urban layout of New York Metropolitan Spatial Structure also included; Third, study the Spatial Structure Function of New York Metropolitan and interactive relationship between Spatial Structure Function of New York metropolitan and metropolitan economic development based on development experience of Boston, Philadelphia Area, Washington and Baltimore urban.Chapter six concentrate on the evolution of industrial structure and economic development of New York metropolitan, mainly including three parts: first, summarize the development phrases of industrial structure the Metropolitan New York and its specific characteristics of the industrial structure, the industrial structure of New York metropolitan better than the overall level of the United States, there are some common features among these industry. Then study the evolution of industrial structure and layout of urban space, this part is mainly based on three parts, they are industrial structure and evolution of the United States, New York Metropolitan evolution of industrial structure, the layout of the New York metropolitan. Finally, analyze the function change in industrial structure of New York Metropolitan and development mechanisms of New York metropolitan.Chapter seven focus on the development of transport infrastructure on metropolitan area .There are four points on above themes: first, analyze the general and universal effects of traffic network construction on the metropolitan; second, describe and study the features of traffic network structure of New York Metropolitan; third, introduce the present specific condition of traffic network structure of New York Metropolitan. The operating situation and developing trend of traffic network of New York Metropolitan are demonstrated based on the form of graph and table; finally, we study the relationship between development of transport infrastructure and economic development of New York Metropolitan, namely, how does the development of transport infrastructure improve the economic growth?
