The Role Of Government In The Western Economic Development

Since the reform and opening up, China's economy has been immensely increasing. But, at the same time, the economy gap between eastern and western regions is more and more extended. It brings a challenge to China's economy development, social stability and ethnic unity. Therefore, it attracted widespread attention both at home and abroad. At the turn of the century, the Central Committee brought up the western development strategy. In the implementation of the western development strategy over the past six years, although the economic growth rate accelerated markedly, the economic gap between eastern and western regions was not close, but is still widening. Based on this background, at the conditions of the socialist market economy, to explore how to handle the relationship between the economic development and market correctly, how to play government functions effectively, how to make the government and market achieve functional cooperation to complement one another, and how to use government intervention to promote the economic development, not only have important theoretical value, but have great practical significance.Based on the awareness of functional duality of government and market in economic development, the thesis follows the fundamental method of historical materialism, adopting the integrated use of specific methods such as the method of the unity of historical analysis and logical analysis practice, by both theoretical research and empirical analysis and integration of qualitative and quantitative analysis, explores the generic relationship between the economic development and general government functions, systemizes the general theory of government functions in economic development, and has a brief review to supported theory of government intervention in economic development of less developed areas. Through analyzing the reasons widening gap between eastern and western regions in the view of government functions, the thesis came to a conclusion that double failure of the government and the market is the reason behind the economic development lag; In the logic framework of the relationship between government and market, through using convergence theory, new growth theory, new institutional economics and sustainable development theory to explain the economic development performance, as well as summing up the international experience of the development of backward areas around the world, the thesis defines the government's key economic functional areas in western economic development of the nation, comes to a conclusion that the...
