Quality function deployment (QFD) is a widely used customer-driven quality, design and manufacturing management tool. Generally QFD utilizes four sets of matrices called house of quality (HOQ) to relate the customer requirements to product planning, parts deployment, process planning and manufacturing operations. When organizations use QFD for quality management, internal conflict minimizes, development cycle time shortens, market penetration increases, product quality improves, and customer satisfaction increases, resulting in higher revenues.The first problem to be solved in quality function deployment is to build the product planning house of quality, but the main mathematical tool to solve the problem is fuzzy set theory. When fuzzy set theory solves the problem, the membership function is determined in advance, but the determination of the membership function generally is incorrect and difficult, so the application of fuzzy set theory in building the product planning house of quality is very painful. But the relationships of the members in rough set theory are not determined in advance, the relationships are determined by the computation of the known data and rough logic, which avoids the difficulty of determining the membership function and reduces the effects on the subjective factors.In the process of composing the product planning house of quality, to improve the composing precision and exactness and to reduce the related times and costs, QFD teams' experiences and knowledge should fully be discovered and mined. Rough set theory is a new kind of the mathematical tool to deal with the fuzzy and uncertain knowledge. It could discover the new knowledge or mine the potential one, and discover the relationships and characteristics in the inner data, and then achieve the aim of the knowledge mining.Based on the proposed two reasons, rough set theory and the other related methods are used to build the product planning house of quality.The major contents are summarized as follow:...
