Based on the theory of integrated regional economic development, dynamic analysis, statistical analysis and case-study method along with both qualitative and quantitative analyses including grey theory method, regression method and C-D production function method are used in this dissertation to simulate a changing path of regional economics, demonstrate the common internal and external demands for integrated regional economy in 3J (i.e. Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei). In addition, it is revealed in terms of essential factors that some superiority of production factors combination exists in 3J and 3J are gradually becoming an ageing society. It is a strong hope that the result from this dissertation is able to promote the process of integrated regional economy and realize a smooth flow of resources among 3J.What has been done in this dissertation is briefly presented as follows. In Chapter 1 introduction is made, in which the necessity and feasibility of integrated regional economy are fully explained, some basic definitions are made, and the direction, methods and basic frameworks with their relations in this dissertation are all presented.Chapter 2 is devoted to the growth theory with its evaluation of integrated regional economy, and to explanation of the growth pole theory, growth theories in equilibrium and non-equilibrium, city group theory and theory of integrated regional economy to lay a firm foundation for integrated regional economic development. In addition, following the combined rule of theory and practice of regional economic development in 3J, the aim of this chapter is to provide a sound theoretical support to 3J's becoming a special mode with a Chinese feature of integrated regional economy.Analysis of regional economic conditions and environment in 3J is made in Chapter 3, which is mainly related to realizability, necessity and feasibility and to factors including manpower, capital, technology, land, open trade policy, resources and environment.Forecast of future development of regional economy in 3J is dealt with in Chapter 4, which is associated with 3J's population size, population structure, manpower migration, urbanization, choice of leading industries, adjustment of industry structure, capital investment, technical progress, and coordinated and sustainable development among regional economy, population, resources and environment. In the last chapter, some decisions and proposals of integrated regional economy in 3J are made to speed up the economic integration process. To sum up, main contributions made in this dissertation are as follows:A proposal is made that integrated regional economy be implemented in 3J. Analysis of regional economic conditions and resource availability is made in terms of manpower, capital, technology, land, industrial structure, resources, and environment, and possibility, realizability and importance in integrated regional economics in 3J are explanained.A combined forecast of integrated regional economy development in 3J is made, including population size and structure, manpower migration, urbanization, choice of leading industries and adjustment of industrial structure, capital investment, technical progress and the trend of coordinated and sustainable development.Functional positions of 3J are identified, and decisions and proposals are made with respect to policy system, and environmental and urbanization construction.A strategic decision to realize three-area economic development equally, parallel growth of four-industry-zone, and promote integrated regional economics in 3J. Using cluster analysis, growth ranking of integrated regional economy is identified with Beijing ranked first, Tianjin second, and Shijiazhuang and Tangshan in Hebei last. It is pointed out that industrial zone development plays an important role in the 3J's economy and in optimizing industrial structure and integrating resources.Dingberg production function is used to measure the technical progress in 3J, and it is found that the elasticity of capital output is positive and that of manpower output negative. Sum of the both are near to one, indicating near invariable stage of scale reward. Measurement result shows that speed of technical progress is not smooth with big difference, while rate of contribution from capital exhibits a decreasing trend. Thus, it is assured that the whole society is in a phase from intensive capital to intensive knowledge and technology, leading to solution to positioning phases in which economic development in 3J is.
