Technological innovation is the soul of enterprise development, which promotes the enterprise to develop continuing new products for satisfying the customers's requirements and increases the market competitive ability of the enterprise. With the development of social information and global economy, the market environment which faced by the technological innovation has undergone so great changes that the trends of furious technological innovation competition, continuous ascending of R&D cost and the high need of personal characteristic and customizing products are coming forth. Therefore, Modularity is a better way to reduce the product R&D cost and to meet the needs of customizing. Modularity products and modularity manufacture method has developed into the hot point and received more and more attentions in recent years. Complex Products System (CoPS) refers to the large product or system with high R&D cost, technology-intensive, complex product structure, one-way or small scale production and it plays an important role in national competition. As to the practice of CoPS innovation, there generally existing some problems such as large amount of investment, long innovation cycle and low innovation performance. Furthermore, few researches study on the topics such as how to coordinate the relationship of customers in CoPS , how to manage the modular outsourcing and so on.Based on these backgrounds, this thesis is tried to settle the problems of high innovation cost of CoPS and difficult management through innovation process by the use of modularity method in CoPS innovation management. Hence, the main research questions of this dissertation are: (1) How to realize the modularity in CoPS innovation? What is CoPS project innovation model? And how does each phase of this model work? (2) What are the key influence factors of CoPS project innovation process? (3) How do the influence factors of CoPS affect the innovation performance? And what is the mechanism? To meet these questions, a survey of more than 100 CoPS projects had gone through 60 enterprises which located in the cities of Beijing, Tianjin, Shenzhen, Hangzhou, and so on. Some other research methods such as big-sample questionnaire investigation and reference research, typical case study combined with classical statistic analysis and Structural Equation Modeling(SEM) are also adopted in this thesis.
