As a national economic center and an important international city, Shanghai has achieved outstanding economic increase in the past decade. However, this high-speed increase is mainly promoted by large investment and energy-consuming industries, which is usually inevitable in the beginning period of development. With the development of economy in Shanghai into a new phase, there is the risk of economic declining, and the traditional methods of increase may no longer function. Through the in-depth analysis of the problems in the economic development of Shanghai, we find that the main problem is the lack of a new key impetus compatible with the new phase of economic development to promote the whole economic transformation. Both the experience of developed cities and the characteristics of creative industries show that developing creative industries is the key to break through the bottleneck of city economic development to this certain phase.After doing research on the development and current situation of creative industries in the world, we see that the concept of"creativity"is becoming increasingly important in the world, and creative enterprises and parks are being built in many countries and cities. More and more economists are paying attention to this issue. However, through the analysis of current researches, we see that the level of theoretical research is still in the initial period, lagging far behind the development of creative industries. For example, the definitions of creative industries differ greatly from each other, and there are different ideas on the scope of creative industries. Though people are becoming aware of the importance of creative industries in promoting regional economic development, no much research has been done on the means and methods of this promotion. People has realized that the creative industries are widely connected to many industries, but no further research has been done on the promoting mechanism of creative industries to other industries. All these are obstacles for in-depth research on creative industries. Therefore, the thesis will make a primary systematic research on building the theory framework for the development of modern creative industries, and make further research on the value increase mechanism of creative industries, as well as on how the creative industries promote regional economic development through internal and external value increase. The main content of the thesis includes:The first chapter of the thesis brings about the idea that developing creative industries is the key of breaking through the obstacles in the economic development, with analysis of the actual problems in the economic development of Shanghai.The second chapter reviews the current researches done on creative industries and points out the fact that though there are many different researches on creative industries, they are usually diversified without a mature theory system. The current researches tend to be general, without in-depth statement and analysis on the promotion mechanism of creative industries to regional economic development.On the summarization of previous researches, third chapter puts forward a systematic theory framework for creative industries--setting down the definition and scope of creative industries, analyzing several concepts closely related to creative industries, summarizing the characteristics of creative industries and dividing the value system of creative industries into four elements and three links, and finally raising the overall model for value increase in creative industries, pointing out that the key attraction in creative industries is the value increase effect.The fourth chapter focuses on the systematic analysis of the value increase of creative industries, and states that the positioning of creative industries in macroeconomics is the new economy increase point, and in microeconomics the source of value increase. On this basis, the thesis presents the creative industries value increase open ring model for the unilateral value increase. By the analysis, it is pointed out that the outside support and constraint is the platform of the development of creative industries, that the development of creative industries is closely related to the coordination of the internal elements and links, as well as of the coordination between creative industries as a whole to the environment.The fifth chapter further introduces the feedback viewpoints in economic cybernetics into the value increase model of creative industries, and establishes the close ring model of cycle value increase in creative industries by systematic dynamics methods. With in-depth analysis on the feedback system of value increase in creative industries through computer technology, through analysis of typical cases, it is pointed out that the value increase effect of creative industries will become more obvious with bigger scope when the feedback phenomenon in sophisticated system and the cycle increase factors are considered.The sixth chapter mainly makes analysis on the development of creative industries in Shanghai from the interactions of theory and practice according to the theory framework and actual working experience of the author.Combining the actual situation and foundation of creative industries development in Shanghai with the theories in the thesis, the seventh chapter makes practical suggestions on the policies to develop creative industries in Shanghai through the interaction of theory and practice, with analysis of the cases and experience of different countries.The four major innovative ideas of the thesis are listed as follows:1. Bringing forward and stating a comparatively complete value theory framework for creative industries.Currently the theory research of creative industries lags far behind the practice. After reviewing the related researches home and abroad, the thesis gives the definition of creative industries, summarizes the characteristics of creative industries, and tries to divide the value system of creative industries into four elements and three links, and therefore establishes a full theory framework of creative industries, which makes a theory foundation for similar research in the future. This systematic theory research on creative industries is a kind of theory innovation.2. On the basis of overall and systematic analysis on the value increase system of creative industries, raising and establishing the open ring and close ring models for the value increase of creative industries.The thesis makes an overall and systematic analysis on the value increase system of creative industries. The value increase of creative industries includes the unilateral value increase from supply to demand on the value chain, and the cycle value increase brought by the feedback of community to the creative suppliers. The thesis brings forward the open ring and close models for value increase in creative industries. On this basis, the thesis analyses how the creative industries realize value increase through its own operation, and how it brings about value increase through its influence on the supply and demand, and how it makes multiple value increase through duplicating. This greatly complement the lack of unified system of the viewpoints on value increase research of creative industries, and is a kind of innovation that makes the research into a systematic and standardized way.3. Making initial quantitative analysis on the value increase model of creative industries through system dynamics theory and computer simulation technology.The creative industries are only arousing interest in the academic field in the last decade, so most researches still stay on the descriptive research. The thesis makes quantitative analysis on the value increase model of creative industries through system dynamics theory and computer simulation technology. Because of the limitation of statistics in China, the quantitative analysis may be more like a kind of exploration, but this definitely will bring long-lasting significance to the value increase research on creative industries. We expect that more extensive and in-depth will be conducted on the topic by researchers of interest.4. Making solutions and suggestions to the development of creative industries in Shanghai.Both the experience of other developed cities and the characteristics of creative industries show that developing creative industries is the solution for economic development to a certain period. The thesis makes research of creative industries in the background of solving the conflict in the economic development of Shanghai, thus making the study of creative industries in Shanghai more practical. On the one hand it will help to make the practical experience systematically and theoretically; on the other hand it will apply the latest research results to practice. The seventh chapter of the thesis concludes the international experience, and makes several suggestions for developing creative industries in Shanghai based on the theories. First, the suggestions are very systematic and clearly state a series of strategic problems for developing creative industries in Shanghai, including the principles, ideas, strategic positioning, focus and breaking points, etc. Second, the specific policy suggestions focus on the feasibility, and make practical policy suggestions for developing creative industries in Shanghai on the basis of concluding the experiences and cases of other countries in connection with the foundation of Shanghai. The systematic and specific suggestion is a kind of innovation combining theory and practice.Besides, in the process of writing this thesis, extensive and in-depth survey has been conducted, and a large number of typical cases in the development of creative industries have been compared and analyzed, which help to provide feasible direction to the development of creative practice. In these aspects the thesis also shows some innovative feeling.The conclusion of the thesis can be summarized into five points:Conclusion 1: The creative industry is just emerging. It fits in with the grand objective of Shanghai to develop cycle economy and build modern service industry and manufacture industry, so it is necessary and possible to become the key industry in Shanghai economy in the future. Therefore, we believe the creative industries will find great potential of increase in the development of Shanghai, and become pillar industries for the national economy of Shanghai.Conclusion 2: The value system of creative industries is divided into four key elements and three links. The four key elements are creativity, fund, talents and operational platform. The three links are content industry, support industries that provide manufacture input or infrastructure support, and distribution industries that cover reproduction, distribution and consumption. The key elements and links connect and function on each other and form the value system of creative industries.Conclusion 3: The existence and emerging of creative industries are caused by its value increase function on other industries. The value increase of creative industries includes the unilateral value increase from supply to demand on the value chain, and the cycle value increase brought by the feedback of community to the creative suppliers. As creativity is not exclusive, the design cost is far higher than the production cost. So duplication will be the main source of the value increase of creative industries. Duplication will magnify the multiple of value increase of creativity.Conclusion 4: The positioning of creative industries in macroeconomics is a new economic growth point, which will promote the transformation of economic growth, upgrading of industries structure and increasing comprehensive national power and competitiveness. The positioning of creative industries in microeconomics is that the value increase does not only come from the creative products themselves, but also from the function of creative products on the related industries and products, and the development effect backward and forward. Conclusion 5: The development of creative industries, especially in developing countries, shall focus on the support conditions, such as protection of intellectual property, guidance of government policy, attraction of talents and concentration of industries. The value increase of creative industries comes from the content of culture and innovation, while the effect of value increase is decided by the extent and depth of radiation to the related industries, and by the diffusivity of showcase effect on the industries. As the market structure of creative industries is formed by small and media enterprises, and a series of distribution and support industries are necessary for the creativity to become products, and it is necessary to explore the degree of acceptance of consumers on creative products, we think the best organizational mode for developing creative industries is concentration.
