Study On The Scale Economy Of Wood Processing Industry In Jiangsu Province

The wood processing industry in Jiangsu province which is made from poplar has been getting great achievement since 1970's, and brought great environmental , economic and social benefit for the north area of Jiangsu province. But, it is at the meanwhile confronted with many problems, such as little scale, dispersive layout and so on, which due to paying attention to short-term benefits, lacking perfect system and scientific development conception, etc. As a result, the wood processing industry lacked scale economy in Jiangsu province. In order to gain sustainable development, it is important for Jiangsu's wood processing industry to bring forward the countermeasures of achieving scale economy on the basis of using the successful experience of developed country.This dissertation included 6 chapters. The chapter 1 firstly discussed the study purpose and significance of the dissertation. In succession, the domestic and overseas research status of scale economy was summarized from the point of view of theory and application of scale economy.On the basis of tracing to the source of scale economy theory, the dissertation systemically discussed the signification, forming causation, types and function of scale economy in chapter 2, and thoroughly analyzed the new characters of the scale economy in the background of new economy.According to the analysis of the strength, weakness, opportunity and threats of the wood processing industry in Jiangsu province, the development status, existent problems and the environment which the Jiangsu's wood processing industry would be confronted with was confirmed in the chapter 3.The estimate methods of scale economy was summarized and classified in the chapter 4. After compared with the different estimate methods of scale economy, the dissertation gave the combined method, which would be used to evaluate the scale efficiency of Jiangsu's wood processing industry.In succession, the quantitative evaluation of the scale efficiency of Jiangsu's wood processing industry was made in the chapter 5 by use of the centralized-degree index, Cobb-Dauglas Model and DEA method. According to the evaluation outcome, the existent scale problems and the cause of be short of scale economy of Jiangsu's wood processing industry was also studied in the dissertation.At last, the dissertation proposed the countermeasures for Jiangsu's wood processing industry to achieve the scale economy in the chapter 6. Just as the dissertation said, choosing industry concentrate strategy, relying on the science and technology, carrying out management innovation, and establishing an excellent industry environment were the realistic approaches to improving the scale efficiency and enhancing the core competition of Jiangsu's wood processing industry.
