The enhancement of the self-oriented innovation capabilities is a key link of the industrial structure upgrading. Complex Products and Systems (CoPS) is a kind of large-scale capital product, which provides support platform for the economic and social modernization. The success of the CoPS innovation would bring the technical upgrade to the entire industry. Heightening the innovation capabilities of CoPS to push the industrial structure upgrading is a very important task in a long period of time. So, there are strong theoretical and practical significance to study some issues about the innovation capabilities of CoPS.Based on this background, the dissertation makes an in-depth study about the process modes of CoPS innovation, analyzing the concept, composition, evaluation and evolvement mechanism of the CoPS innovation capabilities. At last, a case analysis in the field of the energy machinery manufacturers is offered.Main innovation points are as follows:1.The CoPS differs from the traditional mass-production in product features, production features, technical features, innovation features and marketing features. Its technological innovation process is a typical 5G-mode----- Systems Integration and Network Mode (SIN), including five aspects such as the strategy process, function process, technology process, project process and innovation network support. Within the innovative mode, the strategy process plays a guide role; the project process plays a core role; the technology process plays a key role; the function process is the support; and the innovation network is the condition.2.CoPS innovation capabilities refer to the combination of elements need to accomplish the CoPS innovation process. It is a system integrated by these interrelated elements such as strategy elements, project elements, technical elements, function elements and innovation networks and so forth. As seen from its components, CoPS innovation capabilities are composed by the strategic capability, functional capability, project capability, technical capability and the innovation networks support capability. Its evaluation index is designed from these five aspects.3.The dynamics of the CoPS innovation capabilities is modeled. The formation and evolution of the CoPS innovation capabilities is a complex, nonlinear dynamic process. The core of the CoPS innovation process is the project process, and the CoPS innovation abilities are gradually formed and reflected in the innovation projects. By identifying the opportunities within the projects, acquainting projects, implementing projects and completing projects, the CoPS integrator enhances the strategic capabilities, technical capabilities, function capabilities, project capabilities and the innovation networks support capabilities. Meanwhile, the innovation capabilities on the CoPS are respectively raised.4.A case is analyzed on the large-scale coal mining machinery and turbine machinery manufacturers. Some advices are referred to the energy machinery manufactures: accelerate the reform and informationization, establish the project-oriented organization that adapts to the CoPS innovation, enhance the R&D intensity, expand the technical breadth and technical depth; transform from a shearer manufacturer to a system-integrated manufacturer and service provider, and build up the CoPS innovation networks and so forth.
