Kiln is the key and most important equipment during the ceramics producing process, the saying "borning in the materials, growing in the shape and living or dying in the firing" points the most important position of kiln vividly. During the ancient ceramics development in the world, China occupies the premier position and during the Chinese ceramics development history, the Middle Area ceramics also occupies the most important position in and before Song Dynasty.This dissertation sorting the kiln archeological and research literature, starting from the archaeological data about the kiln ruins in the past forty years, using the "field archaeology, archaeometry, experiment archaeology" and other methods to simulate and recovery the ancient ceramics kiln in the Middle Area, aimed to give the clear understanding about the main situation on the ceramics kiln development in the Middle Area. Combining with the existing data, the paper mainly elaborated the following five issues:first, analyzing the relationship between the kiln structure and peoples’ customs, producing and lives; second, opening up a new way for the historical periodization and generation about the ancient ceramics during the archaeological excavations with the help of kiln structure and firing process research; third, system researching the ancient kiln in many aspects such as kiln form, structure and flame flow indication and so on by the graphic and data arrangement; forth, recovering and reconstructing the time representative kiln in history and researching the ancient kiln and related issues physically using the experiment archaeology and archaeometry methods; fifth, proposing the feasibility guess about firing the Qin Terracotta Warriors and Horses with the disposable shell kin.This dissertation was made up of six chapters:Chapter Ⅰ was definition the research area, time, department name and concept of kiln as well as the research purpose meaning, methods and main content. And a large of ceramics literature were collected and summarized to determine this research direction and the research findings from the expert teachers and predecessors were learned to absorb to enrich this research topic.Chapter Ⅱ starting at the ancient ceramics kiln in Middle Area in China and referring to many archaeological excavation data, using the "field archaeology, archaeometry, experiment archaeology" methods to study the development, structure, construction materials, using methods and firing process of the ceramics kiln, then provided the evidence so as to reveal the ceramics history face in Middle Area. As well as discussed the involved disciplines related and this chapter was the key chapter in this dissertation.Chapter Ⅲ main introduced the interview about the ancient ceramics kiln in Middle Area. The vertical vein about the ancient ceramics in Middle Area was sorted out from the excavation information and documents and based on this the technology development track in the Middle Area was also found, which provided the basis of the rules about the kiln development and improvements.Chapter Ⅳ was the simulation experiment, based on the previous findings to make the experiment such as simulating the ancient kiln and firing methods in that time for fire test, got the first-hand experiment data and verified the accuracy of the conclusions.In Chapter Ⅴ, the author thought that the formulation of ancient kiln in the Middle Area related to many aspects such as the caves, stove in lives, living customs, climates and so on. This paper provided the basis and research thought from various angle and many aspects to reveal the true nature about the formation and development of the ancient ceramics kiln in the Middle Area.ChapterVI was the final chapter, the own view and future vision was brought which based on the previous discussed results. The relationship between the ceramics kiln and the city in the Middle Area was put to develop a new perspective.
