As an important industrial base and a hi-tech base, Hai Basin takes up animportant role in the national economic development. Unfortunately, along with thefast socio-economic development, water resources in Hai Basin has undergonedestructive exploitation. The ever deteriorating ecological environment is severelythreatening the safety of drinking water, ecological environment construction andsustainable development of the national economy.In order to reveal the vulnerability characteristics and deeply analyze variation ofthe ecological environment in Hai Basin, modern water information technical meanslike3S and data mining have been adopted in the paper to study the spatial variationand landscape ecology of key ecological environment factors in the Basin. Thevulnerability of the ecological environment evaluated, driving forces for the fragilityrevealed and ecological environment protective measures for the Basin proposed.First, in the study of aquatic environment evolution variation in Hai Basin, theoutstanding problems have been analyzed, the existing problems with the ecologicalenvironment of Hai Basin have been identified. And the major manifestations aredrying-up of rivers, sharp decrease of sea entry water volume, groundwater recession,worsening pollution to the water body, reduction of biodiversity, frequent flood anddrought disasters, and serious soil&water loss.Second, by use of M-K testing, analysis of wavelet, concentration and clustering,the paper has analyzed evolution of essential factors like runoff, groundwater, waterquality, drought disaster. The mutations and variation cycle turning points of thesefactors of the ecological environment were identified, and its change tendency werepredicted.After that, based on the integrated information extraction technology of RS andGIS, the dynamic degree of land use and CA-Markov model, the land use variationand ecological landscape pattern in different stages have been analyzed. On the basisof the LP-SRP concept model, vulnerability of the ecological environment has beenevaluated with the methods of space principal component and analytic hierarchyprocess.Then, the essential factors that bring about a vulnerability ecological environment have been analyzed from the perspective of nature and human activities.The study results shows that human activities have replaced natural conditions tobecome the key factor affecting the ecological environment in Hai Basin. Theinvestigation on the variation of runoff in Zhangweinan Canal, as a typical area,indicates that human activities are the main factors affecting runoff.Finally, measure advice on planning, policy making, management andtechnology have been proposed for ecological environment protection and restoration&improvement of ecology functions in the Basin.
