Since the Industrial Revolution, the industrial production has been creating largequantities of products, which has improved people’s material life greatly. In thisprocess, the increasing demand for natural resources which derived from humanproduction and living activities results in significant emissions of greenhouse gas, mainly carbon dioxide and has a negative impact on global environment. Currently, the impact caused by greenhouse gas emissions has gone beyond the ecologicalenvironment field, it also spread to the fields of politics, economy, society, resources, etc., and become the major practical problems affecting human survival anddevelopment. In the reflection of the traditional mode of development, people cometo realize the importance of reducing the negative impact of human activities on theecological environment. To reduce the impact of the greenhouse effect onenvironment, countries around the world begin to make efforts through a variety ofmeans to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. It should be noted that with the growthof the world economy in the future, global carbon dioxide emissions will growcontinually. And with differences in world population growth, resource requirements, technology and other aspects of economic investment among different countries, there still need a long time to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and alleviate theecological deterioration. In the last thirty years, the Chinese economy has kept a long-term rapid pace ofdevelopment, people’s living standards improved a lot, and the comprehensivenational strength increased significantly. It should be noted that the rapid economicgrowth of China results in the consumption of natural resources. Large amounts of greenhouse gases released due to burning of fossil fuels which is the necessities ofindustrial production, and the gases caused serious damage to the ecologicalenvironment. Currently, the total carbon dioxide emissions in China have surpassedthe United States, ranking first in the world. In2009, the Chinese governmentformally proposed the target that they will control greenhouse gas emissions in2020,and implement relevant policies and measures to promote the transformation ofeconomic growth mode and promote the coordinated development of economy, society and the environment. At present, as China is in the middle stage ofindustrialization, with increasingly tight resource and environmental constraints, areasonable choice of carbon emission reduction path, achievement of carbonreduction targets will have an important impact on China’s economic transformationand sustainable development. This paper firstly introduces the background, theoretical significance, main ideaand methods of this study, and on the basis of this, it also makes theoretical reviewsof the related literature, mainly around the low-carbon economic theory, the theory ofeconomic growth and carbon emissions calculations and other fields were reviewed.Secondly, the paper analyzes the status and influencing factors of China’s carbonemissions, current carbon emissions situation including the total carbon emissions, the trend in recent years, the main carbon source and the main influencing factors, thefactors included economic growth, population growth, and from three angles such asresources, environment economic analyzes the necessity of the Chinese carbonemissions. Then, the article does some theoretical and empirical research onrelationship between carbon emissions and economic growth, pointing out that therole of carbon emissions and the impact on economic growth. Thirdly, the articleanalyzes the path of reducing carbon emission from the perspective of industrialstructure, carbon sequestration perspective and consumer perspective. Meanwhile, wecompare and analyze carbon reduction plan in developed countries such as the United States, the European countries and points out that China’s carbon emissions forrelevant experience. Finally, we base on the main policy tools and relevant measuresabout China’s carbon emission, giving suggestions about effectively reducing carbonemission in China.
