Travel survey of urban residents for the survey of urban residents are the residents Ends travel distribution, travel purposes, travel time, trip distance, travel intensity, mode and parking, etc. for data acquisition, collation and analysis of the research work, is the urban transport development strategy, integrated transport planning and other special transportation planning and an important foundation for research work. Since the last century,80major cities in China since the introduction of residents of the western developed countries travel survey of existing theory to practice, to obtain a large number of urban travel behavior characteristics of the research results, for the then Urban Transportation-related decisions in the scientific, made important contributions to standardization. However, with the practice of in-depth survey of urban residents, both theory and the contradictions between China’s national conditions have gradually apparent. In the current city and the rapid development of urban transport situation, urgent need to adapt to the establishment and improvement of urban characteristics in travel survey of residents in the theory and practice.Characteristics of urban travel demand and transport supply and demand balance of the mechanism and direction of future evolution of urban travel is an important issue in survey research. In this paper, the traffic demand analysis and demonstrate the randomness and regularity, reality and potential, time and spatial specificity of the theory of imperfect substitutability, based on the strength of the permanent residents of trip purpose, temporal and spatial distribution and mode selection rules, travel on temporary residents of low intensity, small-scale, end sociability, and the mobility and seasonal, as the representative of the various types of tourist destination travel behavior characteristics of the floating population analysis carried out for objective control of urban traffic demand characteristics and laws of the foundation.Sampling rate of urban travel survey design is the key technical aspects of design, but also the difficulties on the theory and practice.
