Product development is highly creative and knowledge-intensive process that involve extensive information and knowledge exchange and sharing among geographically distributed teams and developers. How to best integrate such heterogeneous product knowledge has become an extremely important knowledge management subjects associated with product development. Product development knowledge service is becoming a key issue in the enterprise knowledge management. This dissertation addresses the challenges of product development knowledge service during product development. The aim of this research work effort is to develop a method to enhance the sharing and recommendation of product knowledge during the development phase. This dissertation is intended to provide a solution for this problem.(1) Product development knowledge management service(PDKMS) method is proposed based on the analysis and synthesis on the contributions in industry and academic, and a framework for PDKS is established. Of the framework, some significant concepts and items are defined for clarifications, and an overall process is built for implementing PDKMS.(2) A product development knowledge classification method is proposed, and the product development knowledge and its feature are defined. A knowledge representation model based on Hy-SN(hyper graph based semantic network) is proposed. Of the model, development process ontology, development object ontology and knowledge object ontology are established. The detail of knowledge object ontology is also proposed. And a framework of knowledge integration and sharing is proposed. Knowledge integration ontology and the mapping adaptor between integration ontology and representation ontology are defined. Then the knowledge retrieval techniques and algorithms are built based on summarizing and analyzing the product development knowledge demands.(3) Three knowledge demands in product development process are defined based on product developers’ demands. According to the different knowledge demand, three different knowledge recommendation strategies are built. On the basis of these recommendation strategies, three knowledge recommendation methods and process are proposed.(4) Knowledge service concept is defined based on the research of mechanism how knowledge turnning into knowledge service. Knowledge service process of knowledge demanders and knowledge providers is proposed on the basis of analyzing the stakeholders of knowledge service. Knowledge service mapping and matching process is proposed on the basis of analyzing the characteristics of the knowledge service requirements attribute and knowledge service resource attribute. And knowledge service matching algorithm is designed and developed. A product development knowledge management service evaluation index is built based on the characteristics of the knowledge service requirements attribute and knowledge service resource attribute. Knowledge service evaluation method is designed and developed. Some promotions and suggestions will be given according to the evaluation results.And finally, a prototype knowledge service system is developed in this research, which aims to verify the methods above with a demonstration case. The research contents in this dissertation provide some frameworks and methods to assist enterprises for PDKMS, and to to improve the efficiency of product development.
