Along with the rapid development of highway construction in China, Various quality issues of the asphalt concrete pavement inevitably occur, one of which is the widespread existence of reflection crack on asphalt pavement. To decrease reflection crack existence and development is the key task in the work of optimizing the structure of pavement in the period of service at present. The paper studies the mechanism of Stress-absorbing Membrane Interlayer for delaying and decreasing crack reflection and extending the service life of the pavement, On the basis of fracture mechanics theory and By means of Finite Element Method(FEM). Than the paper mades a Stress-Absorbing Membrane Interlayer Asphalt Mixture for the local traffic conditions, climate conditions and the local highway structure, Accordingly the paper puts forward a new design means for the roads needing maintain and the roads made of half-rigid base coarse structure. The advantage of the Stress-Absorbing Membrane Interlayer asphalt mixture is proved by paving the test road. The paper consists of the following mainly:1. The paper analyses the propagation mechanism of reflection cracking based on the theory of fracture mechanics and finite element numerical calculation method, come to the conclusion that:low modulus stress absorbing layer can greatly reduce the concentrate stress of asphalt pavement on the top of base layer cracks.2. In the middle of the research for the low modulus stress absorbing layer asphalt mixture, the paper determines the average extreme maximum surface temperature in Liaoning area as the highest design temperature of asphalt for SHRP (the United States Strategic Highway Research Program), with an average extreme minimum surface temperature as the lowest design temperature of asphalt for the low modulus stress absorbing layer asphalt mixture.3. According to Liaoning province situation of the traffic conditions and the local material supplies, The paper determines the best asphalt sample for tset road by the test method combines with conventional asphalt test and SHRP asphalt design specification, and designs the mineral aggregate gradation for stress absorbing layer asphalt mixture by Bailey method4. Based on the Superpave (high performance asphalt pavement) asphalt mixture design method, the paper presents determination method of optimum asphalt content for the stress absorbing layer and the reasonable control index for designing asphalt mixture. Thus asphalt mixture of the stress absorbing layer available for Liaoning area is designed.5. The optimum thickness of the stress absorbing layer in the test road is calculated on the base of mechanical parameters made from the designed asphalt mixture by Finite Element Method. The paper realizes truly and effectively the relevance of asphalt mixture design and pavement structure design.6. paving test road, then detecting and observing it termly, summarizing construction technology. The paper verifies the service superiority of pavement structure made of the low modulus stress absorbing layer by tracking monitoring test road.In conclusion, through theoretical analysis, numerical simulation, indoor test, paving test road, and monitoring test road, the paper carries out in-depth research on structure Performance on highway asphalt mixture stress absorbing layer. The achievement can provide useful reference for design and construction similar to test road and the road made of semi-rigid base pavement.
