Research On Traditional Town’s Spatial Environment Features And The Protection Strategies In Sichuan And Chongqing Areas

Sichuan and Chongqing as natural geographical and cultural areas that have the fuzzy boundaries, mainly located in the Sichuan basin in China. The diverse geographical environment, abundant natural resources, diverse geographical culture and the amphibious transportation network extending in all directions developed numerous business towns. After hundreds of years, there still retained a large number of unique spatial form and historical cultural landscape in traditional towns, this has become Sichuan and Chongqing region’s most precious historical culture resources. However, with the increasing seriousness of the urban characteristic crisis and under the background of globalization to the awakening of local culture, how to comprehensive understand, protect and develop the rich and colorful traditional towns’ spatial environment become the starting point of this paper. So this paper starts from three aspects: macro, meso and micro view to comprehensive and clearly understand the spatial environment in traditional towns of each regions in Sichuan and Chongqing, and in view of the current specific issues exposed in the protection of traditional towns, trying to explore and construct the targeted and operable local strategies and methods to protect and maintain the characteristic spatial environment in traditional towns.In view of this, the paper first analyzes the generated background of towns in Sichuan and Chongqing region from the macro level. From the angle of area view, this paper makes a detail research of traditional towns’ "mesh" spatial structure system and its distribution characteristics, and from the environment, economy and society three aspects to summarize the traditional towns function under the spatial structure. Secondly, form the mesoscale angle, the author lists the generated historical reasons of traditional towns, takes historical evolution and the military, transportation, trade, religion, cultural and ecological impact factor as the breakthrough point, makes a comprehensive research to historical evolution pattern of traditional towns’ spatial environment in Sichuan and Chongqing. Again, form the micro perspective, the article combined with the spatial environment construction elements of traditional towns, painted rich and colorful traditional spatial environment respectively from a open spatial environment, architectural spatial environment, the landscape spatial environment and humanistic dimension of spatial environment.In face of the current reality in traditional towns protection predicament, the author reviews traditional towns’ protection process, analyzes four typical protection cases, and takes foreign protection experiences as reference and enlightenment, from "the protection and development- seeking spatial environment protection as the goal of sustainable development”, “preserve and creation – make the maintenance and creation of traditional towns’ spatial environment, “activation and transformation-promote each traditional town’s space environment to the preponderant competitive power”, form these three aspects to construct the concept of spatial environment protection of traditional towns in Sichuan and Chongqing, meanwhile, makes a cross from object realize, problems analyze to problems solve.Finally, based on the previous research results, the paper constructs "four big aspects, fourteen points" protection strategy to protect traditional towns’ spatial environment.
