Chenzhou is located five ridges and Guangdong AC, founded in Hanwang five years(202 BC), which the history of setting up city county is second only to Changsha, Hunan Province, also it is one of the four major historical and cultural city that Hunan province has first announced. Chenzhou is located in Hunan, Guangdong and Jiangxi provinces junction, it is the end of Xiangjiang River south to water transport, also it is the node city of water and land conversion from Hunan to Guangdong. The city has special geographical location, cultural diversity and a long history. Based on urban history theory, the dissertation used multi-disciplinary research approach, and gave a comprehensive study on the history of ancient city construction of Chenzhou in the Ming and Qing Dynasties, which is a useful exploration of different types and sizes of city history research. The research systematically analyzes the space-time background of the ancient city of Chenzhou. From four aspects: the location of the ancient city, the evolution of the administrative region, the cultural evolution and the basic form of the city, the geographical location and historical evolution of the ancient city of Chenzhou were analyzed. The ancient military location, economic location and ecological security environment is the determinants of location and sustainable development. The scope of the ancient city was gradually narrowing trend in history, reflecting the difficulty of the military and political functions in the mountain environment management. The culture of the ancient city is to the Central Plains culture as the core, the Chu culture, Huxiang culture under the influence of the Nanling Mountain culture, reflecting the characteristics of multi-cultural convergence. The ancient city of more regular urban form has been basically established as early as the Han Dynasty and the Song Dynasty established the basic network of the city streets. Long historical development laid the material foundation and humanities construction of the Ming and Qing Chenzhou city. The construction of the ancient city of Chenzhou in the Ming and Qing Dynasties, starting with the "time dimension" explores the development history of the ancient city of the Ming and Qing dynasties. The development of Chenzhou in the Ming and Qing dynasties can be divided into four stages. The first stage is the Ming Dynasty before, city development reflects the feudal rulers of the city planning. The second stage is the late Ming and early Qing Dynasty, the war-torn and post-war reconstruction period. At the beginning of the establishment of the dynasty, officials and gentry became the main city construction, and the urban construction reflects the "top-down" principle. The third stage is the late Qing Dynasty, with the rapid development of urban economy, businessmen and ordinary citizens to influence the city has been showing, "bottom-up" construction mode affects the expansion and evolution of the city. The fourth stage is the late Qing Dynasty, the different types of new building appears in a large number. Chenzhou ancient building reflects the variety of expression of officials, gentry, businessmen and ordinary citizens of different groups of urban order. Research on the ancient city of Chenzhou in the time dimension highlighting the important role of war and economy in the evolution of the city, reveals the relationship between urban development and war, regional traffic changes, national economic policy and urban economic environment. The study of the "spatial dimension" of the ancient city of Chenzhou in the Ming and Qing Dynasties elaborates mainly from three aspects: the urban network, the urban form and the urban construction, forming a macro- meso- micro research field. On the macro level, based on the research of the urban network system, the relationship between Chenzhou and the superior city and the radiation effect of the lower cities are discussed. Through the study of Chenzhou City, military, traffic and network economy, analyzes the role of Chenzhou in the ancient city system, probes into the internal relationship between city network and urban scale, military layout and development axis, reveal the dynamic mechanism of urban development. On the meso level, based on the urban spatial morphology, the research highlights the cultural connotation, value orientation and motivation of the construction of the ancient city of Chenzhou in the Ming and Qing dynasties. The micro level is based on the urban architectural landscape, highlighting the location, construction and landscape features of the ancient city of Chenzhou. By exploiting the impact of natural geography and urban culture for urban construction, the study of urban spatial form and construction highlights the "local spatial characteristics" of the city. As a multicultural influence mountainous, Chenzhou formed the ancient urban landscape ecology composed by the natural ecological landscape and human ecological landscape. Urban ecological landscape has introversion, networking, small-scale, intensive distribution and other characteristics, living in close contact with the public, the formation of regional characteristics of the city and a sense of belonging.Urban history research is a key factor in the establishment of sustainable urban development. From the multi-disciplinary integration level in two dimensions "time" and "space", the dissertation not only studied the evolution characteristics and dynamic mechanism of Chenzhou, but also studied the characteristics of ancient city networks and the development of urban form that reflected the geographical features in the comparison of the ancient city construction, which have some enlightenment for future research.
