The Response In Productivity And Quality Of Alfalfa Varieties To Harvesting Systems In Three Areas Of Ningxia

The six different dormancy alfalfa varieties were used for experiment materials from 2013to 2015 in three areas of Ningxia. The studies were conducted in regard of the response in c oldness resistance, productivity, and quality of different dormancy alfalfa varieties to harvesting systems in three areas of Ningxia. The results are as follows:1.Under the different cutting systems(cutting frequency), the re-growing rate of different alfalfa varieties have not significant difference in the same area, but the re-growing intensity, and plant height, and dry weight of per plant. And extreme significant difference exists in hay yield and quality. This shows that the new harvesting systems are superior to the traditional cutting systems.2.Under the same cutting systems, the extreme significant differences exist in yield factors and quality indicators of the same alfalfa variety in different areas. It shows that the same alfalfa variety has a better production performance in the Yellow River irrigation area(Wuzhong) than the one in the pumping yellow river irrigation system area(Yanchi), much better than the one in non irrigation area(Pengyang). In the pumping yellow river irrigation system area, the alfalfa variety has a better production performance than in the non irrigation area. In the non irrigation area, the alfalfa variety has the worst production performance. The significant differences exist in re-growing intensity, plant height, dry weight of per plant, and hay yield of different dormancy alfalfa varieties in the same area, but the fresh dry ratio, stem leaf ratio, CP, NDF, ADF, and RFV etc. It indicts that in the same area there is no correlation between the dormancy and the quality of alfalfa.But, the selection of different varieties will have a huge impact of the quantity and production factors of hay product.3.Under the same cutting treatment, extreme significant differences exist in the plant height,stem diameter, branch number, dry weight of per plant, and hay yield of the same alfalfa vari ety in three areas of Ningxia(P<0.01).The sequence of the three areas is Wuzhong>Yanchi>Pe ngyang. As the dormancy level increases, the differences gradually increase as well in the three areas.The plant height in Wuzhong is 1.1 to 1.46 times of the ones in Yanchiand 1.3 to 1.87 ti mes of the ones in Pengyang.The dry weight of per plant in Wuzhong is 1.07 to 1.85 times ofthe ones in Yanchi and 1.4 to 2.86 times of the ones in Pengyang.The hay yield in Wuzhongis1.12 to1.67 times of the ones in Yanchiand 1.32 to 2.11 times of the ones in Pengyang. In the same area, the significant difference of the yield factors exists due to the different dormanc y alfalfa varieties. The tendency of Wuzhong is WL363>WL354≥WL343>WL440>WL319>WL168 which shows that the productivity of alfalfa varieties increases with the level of dormancy i ncreases(except WL440).The tendency in Yanchi is WL343≥WL354>WL319>WL363>WL440>W L168. It shows that in the pumping yellow river irrigation system area, the dormancy 3 and 4 alfalfa varieties should be appropriate. The tendency in Pengyang is WL319>WL168>WL354≥W L343>WL363>WL440。It shows that in the non irrigation area, the dormancy 2 and 3 alfalfa v arieties should be appropriate.4. Under different cutting treatment in the same area, the significant difference exists in, productivity of the same alfalfa variety.In Wuzhong, this indicates that the time of cutting later th e better. In Yanchi,this indicates that the time of the last harvesting should be scheduled in mi ddle of autumn. In Pengyang, this indicates that the time of the last harvesting should be sched uled in early of September.5. In the three different areas of Ningxia, the extreme positive correlation exists between the alfalfa wintering rate and the root dry matter, raffinose, Proline acid, and total amino acid(correlation factor from 0.87 to 0.96).The positive correlation exists between alfalfa wintering ra te and the root’s sucrose, soluble sugar, Arginine, soluble protein, and total N(correlation facto r from 0.87 to 0.96).But the extreme negative correlation exists between the alfalfa wintering ra te and starch. The correlation factors are respectively-0.93 and-0.88 and-0.86 in three areas. In addition, there is no significant correlation between the alfalfa wintering rate and Stachyose and Aspartic acid.6. The studies have shown that under the same cutting systems in two different areas withdifferent soil types and qualities in the Yellow River irrigation area of Ningxia, the significant difference exists in the plant height, stem leaf rate, fresh-dry rate, branch number, CP, ADF, a nd NDF of the same alfalfa variety. The extreme significant difference exists in hay productivi ty of same alfalfa variety in the different areas. It shows that in irrigation warping soil and loa m soil area, planting alfalfa will have a better economical returns.
