"Jue" is an important concept of Chinese medicine theory, involving the name of the disease, pathogenesis, symptoms, and many other aspects. In medicine,"Jue" theoretical understanding through the ancient physicians inheritance and innovation, thus the formation of a wealth of academic ideas and experience in clinical diagnosis and treatment. We use different methods such as philology study, comparative, summarized interpretation and so on to study "Jue" system.By comprehensive analysis and research, to contrast the relevant provisions, to find out the origin of "Jue".1.The origin and history of "Jue"We find that physicians have different understanding with different variations on "Jue" over time. It hasn’t been discuss much by physicians on medical books before Tang dynasty, except by quoting from "Neijing" and "Shanghan". And since Song and Yuan Dynasties, physicians focus on "Jue" disease, by classifying and propose treatments on "Jue", and formed some new disease names. In Chan’s "Comment on Shanghan" also described details on hand&foot symptoms. From Ming Dynasty, physicians have summed up and dedicate more on the disease name; physicians begin to discuss "Jue" in separate chapters, but they didn’t come up with any conclusion. The also began to analyze "Jue" from different angles, it is not discuss as a disease but a symptom. At Qing Dynasty, physicians summed up to22Jue-related disease names to make it a more standardized system, and analyzed from more perspective to make its content richer and perfect. It can be found in the Qing Dynasty fewer and fewer people analyzing the meaning of the ancient Jue disease. We find that, with the evolution of the times, the discussion of Jue disease decline, and been replaced by a more diverse Jue named symptoms, but the meaning of the Jue disease remain gradually chaotic unknown.2. Explore the basic theory of "Jue" disease"Su wen·Jue theory " has two meanings in Jue, one Zang Qi deficiency; the second Wei Qi inverse chaos. But the main reason is caused by Qi deficiency, leading Wei Qi enables to go through its regular path, causing irregular symptoms. Different external factors cause different symptoms to occur. The "six meridian Jue" represents the six meridians on the foot."Jue" is generated by Wei Qi, when Wie Qi travels through Yang and can’t go under Yin will cause Jue in three Yang. And the Jue in three Yin is caused by Wei Qi going into Yin and don’t come out, causing Zangfu Qi stagnation, relate to pathology change on meridian, and this is the three foot Jue, which is related to Wei Qi. In "Nei Jing", the word "Jue" not only represents a symptom, also describe the activity of Qi rising, Qi irregular. As on describing symptoms, disease conditions, disease etiology and pathogenesis or the performance of the symptom. Because there is no united form of the ancient disease name, regardless of the cause of the disease or symptoms as long as it is related to Jue, we regard it as Jue, which caused confusion to later generations.3. Explore the clinical manifestations of the "Jue"The expression of faint caused by Jue is often related with Wei Qi, and the external evil Qi that result to Qi blockage causes it. Then the blockage lead to localized nutrition deficiency and cause faint. When there are enough nutrition, the qi would recover. This is different from "qi and blood disorder", because one is about the blood, and one is about qi. There are many physicians before Tang Dynasty brought out the theories of the relationship between Jue and deficiency based on "Nei Jing". Some of them discussed it from the meridian perspective, and some from Zan-fu. The explanation that the results of cold limbs are because of Jue comes from "Shanghan". When you study the content of Shanghan, the meaning of Jue includes the limb symptoms and full body symptoms. The meaning of Jue, by comparing the contents of the limb symptoms in Shnghan, is that yang deficiency leads to cold limbs, and extremely weakness of the pulse. And if there’s no yang deficiency and weakness of pulse, the expression of cold limbs cannot be called "Jue." The comments of Jue related to cold limbs before Tang Dynasty mostly came from Shanghan, and other books. However, those books only explained the symptoms of cold limbs and did not fully explain the relationship between Jue and limbs. Until "Comment of Shanghan" from Song Dynasty, the analysis of the relationship between Jue and limbs were fully explained.4. Discuss Jue by it’s connected terminologyJueni has two meanings in "Nei Jing" and "Shanghan". First, in "Nei Jing" it is used as describing Qi adverse rising, doesn’t mean only one disease. Second,"Jue" means cold extremities in "Shanghan", doesn’t have the performance of Qi adverse rising. But later on most physicians describe "Jueni" as fainting."Weijue" should have the meaning of both "atrophy" and "Jue"."Atrophy" is caused by deficiency of jing and nutrient blood that couldn’t give enough nutrition to the limbs."Jue" is caused by stagnation of Wei Qi which unable to flow smoothly to the limbs. Combine both meanings;"Weijue" is caused by lacking of nutrient blood and Qi, and lead to limited movements of the limbs. In "Neijing","Jianjue" means "Jian’s" igneous meteor and dryness meteor, both describing the same "Jianjue", only from different perspective, the root is kidney, and the surface is liver. After years of analysis and summary by many physicians, the theory of Jue became more abundant, yet more complicated and profound. Modern Chinese medicine lack of systematic elucidation toward the theory of Jue, and the Jue symptoms are narrow explained. Therefore, it is not useful for clinical treatment. I hope according to this article with systematic research and deep analysis, I could recover the origin of the theory of Jue in a much thorough perspective. Thus, we could accelerate the clinical use and practical development of the Jue symptoms.
