The subject of my research is the Division on the Treatment of Fevers in the Four Treatises. By using the knowledge of the literature, history, document, logic and clinical practice, I have investigated the development process of the basic theory, the clinical practice, and the characteristics of Division on the Treatment of Fevers comprehensively.Having based the history of Tibetan medicine and the fundamental theory of Tibetan medicine, namely, Three Humors, Five Elements and Hot and Cold, I have analyzed the basic conception, the theory and the development process of theory of fever. The development process of the theory can be divided into three stages. I also point out how environmental and social changes impact on the development of theory of fever. Combining the theory of fevers in the Four Treatises and clinical practice, I exam and analyze the cause, condition, nature, definition, classification, symptom, and methods of treatment. I found that there are special characteristics and great value of the theory. In my dissertation, I show that the theory of fever is an integrated, scientific, practical and unique theory. The advanced Tibetan medical theory is a foundation for the theory of fever. Without the development of whole theory of Tibetan medicine, it is impossible to develop the theory of fever rapidly. Through doing research on the history and theory of fever, I can make following conclusion:the clinical practice and summarizing previous experience are the internal factor and the force of the development of fever’s theory. In addition, the development of theory of fever is associated with new diseases which are emerged due to social and environmental changes. After careful investigation, I believe that we can continue to use traditional Tibetan drugs, as well as external therapies, such sweating, watering, purgatives, medicinal bath therapy, massage therapy, compress therapy, vessel cleansing therapy, venesection and moxibustions, to treat fever diseases. Today, social and environmental have been changed rapidly, it is very important to do research on the theory of fever. We have a great obligation to develop and inherit the theory by studying ancient texts and borrowing new knowledge.
