"Time consciousness" of human beings originates from the acknowledgement and grasp of the infinite and changing world. Its emergence means the human pulled themselves out of the state of chaotic confusion, and started the spiritual journey of self-realization. Therefore, it is closely related to the consciousness of universe and life. Both "history" and "human" are governed in the modernity logic of texts. Judging the transmutation of Lu Xun’s time consciousness, the changing process of his thoughts in different periods can be observed. Taking "Outcry" and "Hesitation" (two short stories in his early period), "Wild Grass" (a poem in prose in middle period) and "New Stories " (a collection of short stories in his later period) as examples, this dissertation explores the cultural elements and characteristic thinking of time consciousness in these famous works and discerns the trend of Lu Xun’s time imagination. Its significance lies in penetrating the historical process through the transmutation of Lu Xun’s thinking mode, realizing by exposing and proving his time consciousness in the same historical process."Outcry" and "Hesitation" carry through Lu Xun’s evolving thoughts of enlightenment and ration. Due to the powerful influence of outer environment and defects of self-consciousness, the characters either escape from or stagnate at "present", their behaviors and intention "non-growing". Moreover, dialogues among individuals in same and different discourse systems all tend to be "incomplete" phenomena. When the chronological process of dialogues is broken off, their understanding and significance are thereupon off the stage. Besides criticizing the "oblivious" nature of people’s ideology, Lu Xun goes deeper to excavate the co-existence of contrary "oblivion" and "memory" in their thinking of time, in other words, their habitual memory and deliberate oblivion towards the past. Furthermore, the acknowledgement of time view in surface level is deepened by the construction and rethinking of the subjects such as "children-orientation", "revolution" and "death". This acknowledgement is connected with western modern democratic and political thinking as well as traditional Chinese culture, lightening those fields as ethnics, sociology and life philosophy. By examining Lu Xun’s critical thinking about the existing time views and subjects, readers can sense the time outlook he persisted:to construct a new time cored by "present" and referenced by "past" and "future". This view of time aims to enlighten the spiritual progress of "human", reflecting the modernity characteristics of Lu Xun’s thinking mode in a historical transitional period.The two short stories mentioned above mainly focus on criticizing and rethinking the time consciousness of peasants and intellectuals. However, "Wild Grass" pays more attention to the characters existence and choice under certain time context. In it co-exists two time experiences:abstract time and concrete time, which reveals respectively two different modes to construct meaning. "The dumping of this time" and "The fault dream time"is now a total of two transient type polymerization time,which experienced in a "space" of the aggregation and sow shape. This "stubborn now" awareness generated by the text and structure of the significance of linking, joint participation and involvement of the awakening of writer personal time confirmed.In the situation of the present time,Rely on comprehension, action of resistance and the negative Dynamic Mechanism,open the possibility of exploring on the future time and history movement.which not only made the true existence lightened,but expand and gained the researching of existence significance which ordinary people can not get.The "stubborn now" is the core of the "intermediate"awareness. In the unity and opposites in relative and absolute,in the issue and generation of nothingness and haveness, in the balance in internal reason (Social Criticism) and external reason (self-critical), the "time dialectics" and the "striking" quality of struggling despair have been formed.Different from the former three works, the chronological form of "Mew Stories" specializing in combining "past" and "present", whose interaction and dialogues endowed the text meaning in form and connotation in ideology horizontally and lengthwise. Sensing time by "perception", the author pierced his existence space and thinking in an open time process, paving the way for constructing his own time discourse and time thinking mode. Additionally, by smashing the traditional creation myth and deconstruct the grand narrative mode, Lu Xun also builds his own conception of history and time discourse. As conception of history is discourse to a certain extent, the discourse system behind it can be worked out if carefully analyzed. Nevertheless, history should be inspected in a changing context for the mismatch between the "possibility" and "feasibility" of cultural transformation."The time extension movement" shaked the traditional "general history" and the significance of Lu Xun’s "the sense of intermediate",and the structure of absolute and relative tension.and construct a historical materialism discourse and time consciousness.In this way, the transmutation of Lu Xun’s time consciousness can be observed:it transmutes form the evolving consciousness of criticizing the static time in the early period, to the intermediate consciousness of concerning the characters’existence in his middle period and eventually to the historical consciousness of combining past and present.In the course of this evolution, "intermediate"awareness experienced as the time of the "intermediate", to as the space of the "intermediate",as the history practice of the "intermediate". "Evolution" is going through from the concerned about the "person" of the Enlightenment theory of evolution to the attention of the "people"exist in the theory of evolution, to attention to the practice of historical and cultural evolution of the course of evolution. And the concept of time of "stubborn now" and "space-based time" are the time conciousness of Lu Xun’s "normal". In particular, the significance of "stubborn now" is from that Lu Xun reflected the past and the future time,and abandon "name" and advocating "actuality"; "space-based time" is from the power of confrontation of "siege" and "break",and the intention to conduct and react mustered in space. In a word, Lu Xun’s time imagination is characterized by experiencing time and examining time dynamically with standpoints of characters. Analyzing Lu Xun’s works from the perspective of time consciousness helps to reach his thoughts in a deeper and more profound level. In this way, Lu Xun’s literary imagination can be inspected under the background of "modernity". In conclusion, the construction of time consciousness is the mark of the discovery and awakening of "individual time" in modernity. It is also the exposition and proof of "subjective time" which conforms to one’s logical system. What’s more, it also reflects the unique modern aesthetic qualities of China in the 20th century grasped by Lu Xun.
