A Study On The Drama About Qu Yuan In The Yuan, Ming And Qing Dynasties

Qu Yuan’s image had appeared in the water puppet drama in the Sui dynasty."Qu Yuan and Yu Fu" and "Qu Yuan Chen Jiang" are the earliest story of Qu Yuan in dramatic works in China. In the Tang dynasty, excellent comedian Huang Fanchuo and Gao Cuiwei had put Qu Yuan’s story into comedy drama in order to satirical current affairs. In the Yuan, Ming and Qing dynasties, there were so many drama works about Qu Yuan. According to the writer’s statistics, in the Yuan, Ming and Qing dynasties, Qu Yuan as the lead or supporting role in drama works up to21kinds.In the Yuan dynasty, drama works about Qu Yuan are "Qu Yuan Chen Jiang" by Mr. Sui and another drama work with the same name by Mr. Wu; and the third work was "Qu Dafu Jiang Tan Xing yin" by anonymous.In the Ming dynasty, there are "Mi Luo Ji" by Yuan Yuling;"Shang Xi Ji and Sheng Nv" by Iv Tiancheng and "Mi Luo" by Xu Yingqian.In the Qing dynasty,"Hua Ren You" by Ding Yaokang;"Mi Luo Jiang" by Zheng Yu;"Du Lisao" by You Tong; Zheng Ze Cheng Xian" and "Yu Jia Yan Le" by Zhang Zhao;"Huai Sha Ji" by Zhang Jian;"Cai Lan Ren Pei" by Wang Zhu;"Li Sao Ying " by Chu Ke;"Diao Xiang" by Jing Zai Ju Shi;"Ren Lan Pei" by Zhou Yueqing;"Mi Luo Sha" by Hu Hepeng;"Yan Sao" by Ding Peng;"Cu Ci Pu" by Gu Cai and "Qiu Lan Pei" by Zhu Ruitu.They are one type of "Shao Sao" works in Five Bibliographic of Chu Ci by Mr. Jiang Fuliang. Some scholars called them "dramas about Qu Yuan". These studies not only can explore the field of Chu Ci, but also can extend drama study. This thesis intends to thematic study by literature-based approach.The whole thesis is divided into two parts:the main part and appendix. The main part consists of13topics and studies21kinds of issues related to drama about Qu Yuan in the Yuan, Ming and Qing dynasties.1. Study on the drama of Qu Yuan in the Yuan dynasty. Three kinds of dramas about Qu Yuan in the Yuan Dynasty had lost. Ancient literatures had some notes, but did not elaborate, and had differences between each other. They have also been mentioned in some modern drama works but not rigorous enough, and more with speculation ingredients. In this topic, the drama’s name, author’s life story and details had been made more in-depth study.2. Study on the drama of Qu Yuan in the Ming dynasty. Four kinds of dramas about Qu Yuan in the Ming dynasty had also disappeared. In this topic, research on the authenticity of the Yuan in the creation "Mi luo Ji", and the reason of created and burnt. At the same time, analysis of the story of the "Shuang XI Ji" and "Shen Nv"as well as the author of the "Shen Nv"; research of Xu’s life and analysis the relationship between these four kinds of drama about Qu Yuan in the Ming dynasty.3. Study on Ding Yaokang and his "Hua Ren You". Ding lived in the late Ming and early Qing dynasties, his drama "Hua Ren You" had told things after Qu Yuan fell into the river. Qu Yuan had leaded a supporting role in this drama which has existed in the world. The topic combined Ding’s life story and writings on the basis of the academia results. It also studies on the version of the story, creation time, the name and skill, script system and performance situation.4. Study on Zhen Yu and his "Mi Luo Jiang". In the late Ming and early Qing dynasties, Zhen Yu’s drama "Mi Luo Jiang" took Qu Yuan as the protagonist, and wrote about Qu Yuan was promoted to the Narcissus and singing of "Li Sao" with fisherman after his death. This play still exists in the world. The topic pointed some questionable views by combing the literature materials on Zhen Yu; study on its bibliographic, version of the story, creating time, and finally compared the phonetics difference in "Li Sao" in tabular forms with "Chu CI Bu Zhu"by Hong Xingzu;"Qu Song GuYin Yi" by Chen Di;"Shan Dai Ge Zhu Chu Ci" by Jiang Ji;"Chu Ci Yun Du" by Jiang Yougao and "Chu Ci Yun Du" by Wang Li.5. Study on You Tong and his "Du Sao Lun". Dong’s drama in the late Ming and early Qing dynasties leaded Qu Yuan as the protagonist, wrote about Qu fell into the river and Song Yu called his soul back. Those plays still exist in the world. The topic has combed Dong’s life story and writings on the basis of the academia results. It also studies on the bibliographic version, the name, story, creative reason, and the script system of this drama.6. Study on Zhen Ze Cheng Xian and "Yu Jia Yan le". These two dramas leaded Qu Yuan as the protagonist, narrated the story of Qu Yuan becoming immortal and then return to earth together. Those plays still exist in the world. The topic for the first time to research their author, but also they are adapted, the story, script structure and performances had changed.7. Study on Zhang Jian and his "Huai Sha Ji". This play wrote about Qu Yuan’s lifetime and of becoming immortal after death. It leads up to32plays and the longest one which has existing. The topic in detail combed Zhang Jian’s life story and writings, and show descriptive version of the story, the reasons of creation, creation and inscribed time, the script on the historical data to show into the music, performances and effects on later opera on the basis of academia results.8. Study on Wang Zhu and His "Chu Zhen Ze Cai Lan Ren Pei". Wang columns in the reign of Emperor Qianlong, and adopted Qu Yuan as the main character, write the origins of two sentences. This play still exists in the world. The topic combed the life and writings of Wang Chu and shows descriptive version of the story, the reasons of creation, creation time and performance situation on the basis of academia results.9. Study on Chu Ke and his "Li Sao Ying". Chu Ke’s drama adopted Qu Yuan a supporting role to write Qu Yuan’s death and Qu investigated the reasons for a suicide woman in Wu Ling a river and eventually got compliment from Tian Di in the Qian Long dynasty. This play still exists in the world. The topic to research the real name of Chu Ke, origin, life story and writings, and the play bibliographic, version, script structure, skill, and the stories, and the Sketchbook"Lie Nv Wu Mingshi".10. Study on Jing Zai Jushi and his "Diao Xiang". Jing Zai Jushi had lived in Jia Qing and Dao Guang dynasties, his drama "Diao Xiang" leaded Qu Yuan as a supporting role, wrote the story of Jia Yi to pay homage to Qu Yuan. This play still exists in the world. The topic for the first time detailed research on the names of Jing Zai Jushi, membership, birth and death year, the life and writings, and also show descriptive version of the story, the creative reason and creation time.11. Study on Zhou Yueqing and his "Ren Lan Pei". Zhou Yueqing lived in Xian Feng and Dao Guang dynasties. Zhou’s "Ren Lan Pei" leaded Qu Yuan as the protagonist, and written after the death of Qu Yuan revived by Zhao soldiers. This play still exists in the world. The topic in academia has been the basis of the results in detail combed Zhou Yueqing’s life and writings, bibliographic and drama, version, skill, and the plot, the reasons of creation, creation time, the script system, shows the situation is a test theory.12. Study on Hu Hepeng and his "Mi Luo Sha". There are20plays in "Mi Luo Sha". Hu Hepeng leaded Qu Yuan as the protagonist, written his revived after death and entered the hectare. This play still exists in the world. The topic to research the life and writings of Hu Hepeng, bibliographic and play, version, the reason of creation, the creative process, publishing time, skill, plot, performances. It also study on the relationship among "Mi Luo Sha","Huai Sha Ji" by Zhang Jian and "Mu Dan Ting"by Tang Xianzu.13. Study on the three disappearing drama about Qu Yuan in the Qing Dynasty."Yan Sao" by Ding Peng;"Chu C i Pu" by Gu Cai and " Qiu Lan Pei" by Zhu Ruitu in the Qing dynasty had disappeared. The topic pushes to test the contents of "Yan Sao’" and researches the life and writings of Gu Cai and Zhu Ruitu in detail.Appendix includes four topics."Chronicle of Zhang Jian" and "Chronicle of Yang Zongdai" are subsidiary results of the study of Zhang Jian and Chu Ke (Yang Zongdai)."Qu Yuan and Yu Fu" and "Qu Yuan cheng Miluo Jiang" in the Sui dynasty studied the water puppet about Qu Yuan. Verse and Songs of Chu Yuan Ming and Qing Dynasty excerpted dramas about Qu Yuan and Chu C i in the Ming and Qing dynasties to prepare for the future academic research.
