Cao Cao is one of the most controversial figures in the stories of The Three Kingdoms.Because of his multifaceted and complex images,he has been widely concerned by the historical and literary circles.It is generally believed that Cao Cao on the stage of opera is a distinct image of white-faced treacherous official.However,dramas of Cao Cao in Yuan,Ming and Qing dynasties are not simply the composition of the face,but a variety of appearance.This article discusses the image evolution of Cao Cao by studying 34 dramas and legends in Yuan,Ming and Qing dynasties.In the first chapter of this article,the author analyzes the evolution of the image connotation of Cao Cao in dramas and legends in Yuan,Ming and Qing dynasties,specifically from the negative typical to the polarization of the positive and negative,from extreme performance to complex fusion,from the polarization of the positive and negative typical to the negative typical.The second chapter analyzes the artistic expression of the image evolution of Cao Cao in dramas and legends of Yuan,Ming and Qing dynasties.This chapter discusses four aspects of the artistic expression:Ke Jie,actor's lines,costume and role.Ke Jie is from stereotyped and single to multiple images.Actor's lines is from popular to elegant.Costume is from monotonous to rich and personalized.Role is from Jingjiao to Mojiao and Choujiao.The third chapter discusses the reason and cultural connotation of the image evolution of Cao Cao in dramas and legends of Yuan,Ming and Qing dynasties.The reasons of the evolution are analyzed from three aspects:the change of political environment and social culture,the creation mentality of authors and the aesthetic tendency of audiences.The cultural connotation is the orthodox concept,the thought of retribution for karma,the Confucian etiquette system and the hierarchical concept.This article makes a multidimensional reflection on the image evolution of Cao Cao in dramas and legends in Yuan,Ming and Qing dynasties,hoping to provide some inspiration to study Cao Cao and his image building in the future.
