His novel<keerqinqicaoyuan> and short story<ciluhudeyouyu> brought him to the attention of many critics at that time but for various reasons, his literary works recognized as long-term nonmainstream, and those who can understand his specific literary content were too rare. On the contrary, when people mention a prominent writer "xiaohong", not a few people will bring up Duanmuhongliang. During a certain time of period in the past, his personal situation may have affected the public appraisal and research. Comparison with the past, a study of the Duanmuhongliang has remarkable achievements in the current literature field. This paper is to discuss literary value in Duanmuhongliang’s early works. There are two core elements of the Duanmuhongliang’s early works, which the one is a "the land" with a focus on "the natural property" and the form of uncivilized cultures in northeastern region, the other is a "the shape of women" with a focus on "Oedipus complex" and "mother". As the above subject is not being discussed in literature field until now, it is true that this paper was faced with difficulty. In process of textual analysis on his representatives, the "the natural" in the narrative literature is shown the writer’s intuitive awareness about the natural properties and the form of uncivilized cultures in northeastern region, the "mother" in the narrative literature is shown the writer’s "Oedipus complex" and from which there is formed a particular women. The two core element of narrative themes reveals regression towards "the natural" and "mother". This regression would be the most innovative content among Duanmuhongliang’s1930-1940works which all he had recreated. Although Duanmuhongliang have not admitted himself that his writing express the regression, we find that it his particular complex and attraction for his own narration by textual analysis. This paper is to search the complex and the regression of Duanmuhongliang by textual analysis. The contents of each chapter basically are presented in chorological order with his announcement of the representative works. By the analysis of these two works, this paper is to explain how to describe the natural properties and the particular sense of uncivilized cultures in northeastern region. His short stories written in this period is shown that his hidden inherent "Oedipus complex". This means that big changes are occurring to his narrative style. Given he faced the emotional crises as bereavement, in other words he lost his wife "xiaohong", these changes seem to occur for a moment but in fact he already had a mind of his own to change in deeper consciousness. Living in Guilin period, his bitter fate can trigger narrative style to change. Chapter5is the profound discussion that meaning of his early works.
