This thesis revolves around problems like non-priginal, vagueness and generality, entity-deletion, theoretical vacuum in the developing process of Chinese animation’s commercialization and construction of artistic style. From the perspective of deficiency of chinese culture in intercommunication, and the inner tension between history and reality,this thesis try to unscramble the inherent abuse and predicament in need of solution, and put forward a new theory that the animation may have activated the cultural tradition and the tradition may have enriched the animation. The purpose of this thesis is to differentiate the role of animation in the history of Chinese culture, to distinguish the relationship between the cultural history and the new cultural form, like animation, which has developed greatly nowadays, to evaluate the how much animation meant to the mainland cultrue’s regeneration and exportation.At first, this thesis has checked questions about the interaction between the iconographical factors hiding in the visual transmission in Chinese history about mainstream culture and folk art, and the animation coming from foreign countries. Then it has analyzied the successful experiences and the failures for the conventional drama, novel, fairy-tales’stories and subject matters adapting for animation, traced kinds of culture and ideology’development in history which had been reflected by animation, and discussed how can be the theory of Chinese paiting supplied enlightment for today’s animation, how the typical raw materials and symbols can be used in Chinese paiting and in animation, and the Chinese school animation movies’ success and failue. At last, it have relegated animation to a particular discipline called "every age has its own literary output", advanced a theory that animation was the most representational and the prospective art for the modern Chinese society. So this thesis reach a conclusion that traditional cutrual had continued in animation in a deep level, just like "atavism", and in purpose to procure this cultural continuity, we need to achieve cultural reconstruction in the field of animation, to make animation to be traditional culture’s inheritator, to make traditional culture to be animation’s driving source.
