Starting with KaoGongDian, the article was written to research morphology oftraditional design theory in China.KaoGongJi is the original document about Chinese traditional design theory,while KaoGongDian is the documental summarization. Moreover, because of itsunique style and documents arrangement, KaoGongDian provides us a perfecttemplate to study relationship among documents of traditional design theory inChina.Besides chapter1and chapter2, this article’s main part was composed of2parts which including5chapters——a principle and4developments. These are thecontents from chapter3to chapter7, which is GuanXiangZhiQi: the ultimateprinciple of traditional design in China, BaiGongZhiDu: the administration mode oftraditional design in China, NengZhuZhiRen: kinds of design subject which intraditional Chinese design, CaiMeiGongQiao: the fundamental areas of traditionaldesign in China, QiaoFaZaoHua: the basic approach of traditional design in China.Chapter3is the core chapter, and as the ultimate principle of traditional design inChina, GuanXiangZhiQi was permeated in all parts. This article primarily researchedthe influence of GuanXiangZhiQi in4directions which including administrationmode, kinds of design subject, the fundamental areas and the fundamental methodsof traditional design in China.General position of this paper:1. There is a unique morphology in Chinese traditional design theory——KaoGongXue, which could be observed through the development of fromKaoGongJi to KaoGongDian. What is KaoGongXue’s unique value, core issuesand structure? This is a question which worth us to investigate deeply and this paperis an answer about it.2. A research about morphology of traditional design theory is the groundworkfor building design philosophy in China. As a discipline, design is experiencing aswift development in China, but its philosophy system is still in a limited condition.However, any theoretical system is the development of pre-existing system. As aresult, the road could be found only when we recognized clearly what the traditionwas. And our study on morphology of traditional design theory could be a solidfoundation to build modern design philosophy. Innovation of this Paper:1. The article did a first systematic research on design theory aboutKaoGongDian and morphology in Chinese traditional design theory.2. The article firstly made GuanXiangZhiQi as principle theory of traditionaldesign in China, and attempted to research some core questions about morphology inChinese traditional design theory.The value of this paper:1. This paper is an expansion about the content of traditional design history inChina. As an important document about design history, KaoGongDian was ignoredfor a long time. The study on KaoGongDian is not only bring it into the field ofdesign history, but many clues about further research.2. This paper is a deepening of traditional design history in China. Benefitedfrom KaoGongDian, this article’s was a research which launched in a historicalframework. This could avoid the defect which researches were limited in one field orone period in design history research, as a result we could consider Chinesetraditional design as a whole to discuss the questions about morphology of designphilosophy.
