Research On The Chinese Main Theme Films And TV Dramas Express Main Ideological

Main Theme Films and TV Dramas are films and TV dramas promoted and supported by the People’s Republic of China and the Central People’s Government. Based on the view of historical materialism, they reflect the fundamental economic and political interests of the proletariat while embodying the guiding ideologies of Marxism, socialism with Chinese characteristics, and patriotism, as well as the national spirit, the spirit of the age, and socialist values of shame and honor.Since the founding of the People’s Republic of China, Main Theme Films and TV Dramas have played a key role in shaping mainstream thought, guided by the Party and core socialist values. Currently, all kinds of cultural developments and ideological struggles take place, exerting great influence on the population. Culture is a human tool for expressing thoughts, as well as a driving force in leading the future, whereas film and television play an important role in the diffusion of ideology and culture, thanks to their unique artistic characteristics and their significant impact on people’s thoughts. Main Theme movies and dramas have become one of the most important types of art to express mainstream ideology, while significantly increasing the independence, selectivity, and diversity of people’s thoughts. However, the academic circles of China still lack a systematized, in-depth theoretical study of this topic. Further research on this issue is of utmost importance for the spread and practice of the socialist core value system, and for the improvement of films and dramas as ideological conduits.This dissertation will analyze the theoretical basis, practical experiences, difficulties, and strategies of development related to the effort of expressing mainstream values through Main Theme Films and TV Dramas. It will combine basic theories from political science, sociology, communication studies, film and television culture, and other fields of study, while using research methods such as literature review, case analysis, comparative analysis, and image analysis. Firstly, the dissertation will proceed with a review of current literature and basic theories, and will expound the theoretical basis of how films and dramas are able to convey ideological values, exploring moreover the function of ideology in capturing the contemporary zeitgeist, asserting state discourse, contributing to the country’s decision-making, and guiding public choice. Secondly, according to the historical periods of Chinese contemporary literature, this dissertation will look back at developments and changes in the expression of mainstream values through Main Theme Films and TV Dramas, thereby summarizing the experiences and achievements. It will also analyze the rigidification of artistic forms, the narrowing of the audience, and the tendency towards vulgarization, while revealing the internal dialectic conflicts between educational requirements and diversity, artistic values and commercial needs, and innovation and acceptance. Finally, considering past experience of how to optimally express mainstream values through Main Theme Films and TV Dramas, this thesis will argue for a policy that recognizes the relevance of such films and dramas, their leading power, and the importance of artistic attributes as well as popular acceptance,Main Theme Films and TV Dramas, with their unique imagery and strong artistic quality, can convey the national mainstream ideology and bring about a positive change in the audience’s mental state. Therefore, they are greatly relevant to the construction of a harmonious socialist society.
