Youth As Fuel And Its Expression——Studies On The New Youth

This paper considered The NewYouth magazine as a successful youth reading, to reveal its youth characteristics and connotation. We can see from articles in The NewYouth, there are some extreme languages, drastic measures, styles that not strict enough...All these kinds of emotional expressions, are related to its accurate reader orientation and subsequent trait of youth. The text of The NewYouth shows special demands and psychological traits of youth. this paper choose to show the youth quality that appeared in The NewYouth in the following four aspects:the narrative characteristic, the revolutionary demand, the influence on readers, and the building of beliefs. In chapter one, the using of idol has been mentioned as an special narration characteristic which is fully emerged in this magazine, including the shape of the typical "idol", the "hero" that has been made up as the reference of the reader, and the "monster" that used to defeat the enemy. Chapter two points out that the literary revolution which started by The NewYouth is actually Designed to be a real-world Subversion. The youth want to wash out the traditional values by create an outright abolition of classical Chinese language. Chapter three shows some model of the youth at that time, they took part in the producing of The NewYouth and the creation of the images of "new youth". Chapter four focuses on the building of the belief system, in which The NewYouth has provided many items as reference:evolutionism, scientism, the enlightenment philosophy, positive romanticism, democracy... indicates the understanding of modernity and the kernel of the New Culture Movement...
