The Causes Research Of South Korean Youth Idol Drama Being Popular In China For Twenty Years

The South Korean TV drama was introduced to China since the early 90’s of the last century, after the broadcasting, it was being popular in China for twenty years. During the period of development, it has gone through the testing period of imitating the Japanese youth idol drama in the last century ninety’s, to the popular period of featuring on the family drama and costume drama from the year of 2000-2005, and then to the downturn period of being boring about "Korean Sambo" (the accident, amnesia, cancer) from the year of 2006-2010,and finally to the resurgence period of creating "new Korean Sambo"(long legs, seductive, local tyrant style) from 2011 to the present. The influence for a long time and the impact of a wide range of Korean dramas in China and even in Asia is rare in the world, its success can be regarded as a model for contemporary cross cultural communication. And the youth idol drama as a representative type of Korean drama, with the development of the times, it is also on the ongoing innovation based on the inherent program, thus it is being popular among generations of Chinese audiences. The South Korean youth idol drama is mainly featuring on "Youth" and "Idol" and it takes the young people as the main roles, but its audiences to appreciate are not limited to youth groups, including the juvenile, the youth and the elderly. The different ages audiences’consumption patterns of the South Korean youth idol drama are not the same.This paper tries to select the classic dramas of South Korean youth idol drama being popular in China for twenty years as the research object, and put it under the background of the economic and social transformation in China, using cultural studies as the analytical framework, and combining with the type of drama, TV culture, mass culture, consumption culture, globalization, modernity and the other related theories, mainly from the three dimensions of types, audience and culture to start analysing the text production and consumption and the popular culture context of South Korean youth idol drama, trying to reveal the specific causes of the South Korean youth idol drama can be fashionable in China for twenty years. This paper argues that the South Korean youth idol drama uses the flowing modern cultural elements to package the traditional pure love, namely it is based on the youth idol drama inherent program to keep pace with the times carry on the innovation, through the way of "old wine in a new bottle", let Chinese generations of Korean fans to keep curiosity and audiences’expectations, thus forming a enduring appeal.This paper uses the content analysis method, literature research method, questionnaire, depth interview and comparative analysis, trying to sort and collect more rich and detailed research materials, this study lays a foundation for the later development of the drama types. This paper analyses the text production of the South Korean youth idol drama from the perspective of drama types, use the perspective of consumption culture to analyze Chinese young and middle-aged Korean drama fans’consumer behavior and consumer motivation on the South Korean youth idol drama, through comparative visual angle of the social cultural system between China and South Korea to prove why Korean dramas are popular in China. These are providing new perspectives and research ideas for the study of the causes about Korean dramas being popular among Chinese for twenty years. In addition, this paper also hope that through analysing the causes of the popular on Korean dramas from different points of view, expecting to provide some good references to the benign development of Chinese dramas.
