The study of this doctorate dissertation originates in the interpretation ofpersuasive verbal communication experience. The core issue displayed lies in howpeople choose discourses to meet the demand of persuading people into changingoriginal attitude,or on this basis carrying out some actions. This dissertation proceedsfrom the intention of persuasive verbal communication, exploring how these verbalcommunications come into being and put into use as well as how their verbal formsconstructed and comprehended.The whole dissertation consists of seven chapters and one conclusion.Chapter I: Introduction.Clarify the Origin, Value, Standpoint, and Idea of the Study.Words and deeds originate from our demands. Communicative intention isachieved by the expectation of meeting the demand in words. The process ofpersuasive verbal communication means that persuaders choose one certain discourseform in specific communicative context to achieve the intention of persuasion, whichis the study standpoint of this dissertation.Realization of the persuasive communication intention needs to establishconnections between discourse forms and the persuasive communication intention bythe persuaders. This can be presented into several aspects, namely persuasive verbalcommunication intention, realization conditions of persuasive verbal communication,realization process of persuasive verbal communication, discourse forms ofpersuasive verbal communication and so on. These aspects are inter-connected witheach other during the persuasive verbal communication process.This dissertation has the following research values. Theoretically, thisdissertation analyzes persuasive verbal communication from the perspective ofpractical experience of verbal communication to construct its stereo research model. Ituses the need and the satisfaction state as the origin and destination of explainingpersuasion so as to reveal the source of language application. With the expressive coreof discourse forms, the realization of persuasive communicating intention as its clues,this dissertation also analyzes the mechanism, principles and approaches of connecting the persuasive discourse forms and persuasive communicating intention.In this way, the dissertation effectively establishes and classifies the discourse formsof persuasive verbal communication.In practice, this research is conducive to improving TCSL functional teachingand establishing the TCSL oral level testing evaluation standards of professions.Besides, it has a realistic facilitation and significance in the improvement of languageapplication teaching, media and advertising language persuasiveness as well as theeffective operation of ideological and political education in universities, secondaryschools and primary schools.Chapter II: The Overview of Relevant Studies.Both domestic and foreign relevant studies are summarized in this chapter. Thedomestic research on persuasive verbal communication mainly focuses on indirectverbal act, programme, cooperation principle and politeness principle. While theforeign research involves Hovland’s persuasion theory and katz’s attitude function,the hierarchy of needs by Maslow and many linguistic views related to connotation.These researches all involve such issues as discourse function, realizing conditionsand discourse significance, which provides reference for this dissertation.Chapter III: Acting Structure of Persuasive Verbal Communication.In this chapter, the author discusses the subject, intention, forms and context ofpersuasive verbal communication. The realizing structure of persuasive verbalcommunicating intention can be illustrated as the persuaders persuade the personswho are persuaded to change original attitude,or on this basis carry out some actionsplus persuasive reasons on the persons to be persuaded.Chapter IV: The Role Selection and effectiveness of Persuasive CommunicatingSubjects.The persuasive communicating subjects are complex of multi-roles. In the realityof the persuasive verbal communication, the role selection of both communicativeparties will have an influence upon the effectiveness of persuasion.Chapter V: The Realizing Conditions for Persuasive Verbal Communicationintention.After analysis and synthesis, the realizing conditions for persuasive verbalcommunication intention can be classified into the needs of persuaders, the ability ofthe persons to be persuaded, realizing conditions of the attitude and actions, proper definition of the subject role and action will of the persons to be persuaded.Chapter VI: The Realizing Process of Persuasive Verbal Communicationintention.In this chapter, the author not only discusses the realizing mechanism and typesof persuasive verbal communication intention, but also elaborates the realizingprinciples and approaches of persuasive verbal communication intention. In practicalverbal communication, when any realizing condition of persuasive communicationintention is marked by a certain verbal forms, the graphical representation ofpersuasive communicating intention can be aroused and further promote therealization of persuasive communicating intention. This process of“marking-arousing” is the realizing mechanism of persuasive communicatingintention.Chapter VII: The Discourse Forms of Persuasive Verbal Communication.The discourse forms of persuasive verbal communication are composed of thepersuasive intentional content and persuasive cause. Therefore, the discourse forms ofpersuasive verbal communication can be interpreted and constructed from two aspects:the static and the dynamic.Chapter VIII: Conclusion.The prospects and deficiency of this dissertation are formulated.
