This dissertation firstly introduces the author, the dating, preface, the method of phonetic notation, pronunciation of fifteen tones and eight tones and compiling system of Huiyin Miaowu,and analyzes its present research situation. Secondly, its "fifteen tones" a nd the consonants vowels and tones of "the fifty letters" and their reflective character of t he sound system are also examined. The consonant system of Huiyin Miaowu inherited th e "fifteen tones" of the Brief Guide of Eight Tones and Literal Meaning by Qi Jiguang in Ming Dynasty. The vowel system of Huiyin Miaowu has50thythms and92vowels; its fo ur tones can be divided into Yin and Yang according to their voicing, namely Yin Ping (Shang Ping), Yang Ping (Xia Ping), Yin Shang (Shang Shang), Yang Shang (Xi a Shang), Yin Qu (Shang Qu), Yang Qu (Xia Qu), Yin Ru (Shang Ru) and Yang Ru (Xia Ru). But the tones of Yin Qu and Yang Qu have been mixed together, there are a ctually7tones. It is to analyze its phonology by sorting out the consonants, vowels and t ones of Huiyin Miaowu.The methods of historical comparison, induction and deduction are used in this disse rtation to explore the different pronunciation system of Huiyin Miaowu in written languag e and vernacular to analyze the changes of the phonology, and meanwhile contrast the ph onology between Huiyin Miaowu and Guang Yun and make a diachronic and synchronic c omparative study of the rhythms of Mandarin and other Minnan dialects to find out their mutual corresponding pronunciation relationship and evolution regularity and discover th e change tracks of Quanzhou dialect.
