On The Formation And Evolution Of Innovational Culture System In Shenzhen

Economics Nobel Prize laureate Douglass C. North said that culture is the core factor that drives the evolution of economy and political systems. The creation of "Shenzhen Miracle" is largely attributed to its innovation culture.Currently, shenzhen innovative culture remains poorly studied, and the existing research has been mainly focused on structural description. Looking the innovative culture as a system, this study attempted to study the origin, growing up and leaping forward of Shenzhen culture innovation using historic and dialectical logic analyses. This study may help to better understand “Shenzhen Miracle” as well as providing an overall picture of its innovative culture."Innovation culture" is defined as "ideals, values and beliefs that prompt the recombination of disposable forces and resources". Innovation culture is an abstract thing, therefore its understanding has to be based on its outer representation, including combination ways and effects of resources and strength, rules and regulations, behaviors and expressions, etc. The evolution process of Shenzhen innovative culture system has gone through four successive stages, i.e., adventure and tolerance, opening up and expanding, learning and creativeness, and self- improvement and autonomy. The forces that have driven the evolution of Shenzhen innovation culture is originated from the interactions among environmental changes, mankind demands and their combination.Because of the scarcity of resources and manpower, the low efficiency of their combination as well as the unfriendly environment for their combination, the temperament of adventure and tolerance that exist in Shenzhen immigrant culture and marine culture got to revived. Also because of this, Shenzhen has been actively explore new ways for resources and power combination. Although many new combinations have been created, they were often in low efficiency due to the limitation of outdated ideas and systems. This low efficiency has then cultivated the the spirit of opening up and working hard. With time passing by, environment changing and the knowledge that accumulated during practice, new imitation innovation continuously emerged, which gradually became systematized. In the process of developing independent innovation and building innovative city, Shenzhen innovation culture system got ascended and eventually possesses two important features of self-improvement and autonomy.The character of continuity, inheritance and development has appeared during the evolution process of Shenzhen innovation culture system, in which each stage contains the ethos of the previous stage. Therefore, the mature stage that is characterized by "self-improvement and autonomy" must include eight components, adventure, tolerance, opening up, working hard, learning, innovation, self-improvement and autonomy.The evolution of Shenzhen innovation culture has continuously supported and guided by governmental policies, regulations and rules. During this process, governmental policies, regulations and rules have also been well implemented, and this also help to form harmonious interaction between the government and the public.In conclusion, this study will not only enhance our understanding of Shenzhen innovation culture system, but also help to better understand the interactions among material, system and spirit in culture research. Moreover, this study could provide new evidence and example for the understanding of evolution of local knowledge and traditional culture.
