Farmer is one of the most important themes of Chinese fine arts. The depiction of farmers’ image and their rural life has emerged in all kinds of form of literature and art in China. In all media representation of farmers’ image, the propaganda poster is the most representative, and therefore it becomes an important text that should not be ignored for us. In the year of 1949, the creation of farmers’ image is a signature line.The establishment of a new national means a kind of brand-new development pattern,the proletarian literature and art theory combine with Chinese practice formed the basic tendency of "art service for politics ". Based on farmers’ image in Chinese propaganda posters from 1949 to 1976 as the main researching content, this paper analysis the shaping of farmers’ image and the social function, emphasis the image’s formation and evolution process in specific environment influence, exploration and mining social propaganda objectives and the public habit about art appreciation and acceptance, examining how art spirit and influence on people, and how political efficacy is success in using artistic techniques.This paper firstly combed the history of farmers’ image development, through studying farmers’ image in Chinese fine arts, we found that farmers’ image has undergone a marginalized existence from the shelter to highlight the subjectivity of development. Secondly this paper classified the theme of farmers’ image in Chinese propaganda posters, there are four kinds of typical content of poster, the themes of farmers’ image has keep the same social value and purpose with the improvement of political identity, developing agricultural production, strengthen the learning atmosphere and building a social ideal which are the country aim to advocates.Farmers’ image is created basically around the revolutionary discourse and modernity, and it is the concentrated reflection of national ideology narration.This paper analysis four basic schema types of farmers’ image in propaganda poster:line and brushwork, light、shade and color, plane and perspective, closed and open structure, and found that the use of these shaping technique play an important role in establish national standard collective thought of aesthetic and emotion. Those image not only satisfies the ordinary people’s imagine for a better life, but also reflects the farmers’ status of ownership, and even been used to highlight the country and the regime’s legitimacy, constructing the Utopian society for the whole country. By establishing a model for farmer groups, integrating local society collective emotion and building loyal to the country’s leader’s ceremony, farmers image complete the social role of visual persuasion. The emotional appeal and aesthetic ideals in the course of image construction are with the typical utilitarian. Integrating advanced countries political idea and abstract moral norms to be a specific form and personification. Therefore the farmers’ image in poster deeply brands the mainstream ideology of the aesthetic attitude and the interest orientation to common people’sthoughts, and finally completes the goal of public education.
