On the Movie Dissemination of literary works in the New CenturyBorrowing from the theories of communication, film, culture, narration, and based on text analysis, the dissertation aims at the synthetic and systemic study of the movie dissemination of literary works. The dissertation has three research objectives: first, it will summarize the history and trend of movie dissemination of literary works. Secondly, according to selective law,it will examine the differences between the literary works and the movies dissemination,and further explain the reasons. Third, it will discuss the deep influences of the new circumstance of media convergence on the the movie dissemination of literary works.The dissertation has five chapters besides introduction and conclusion. The first chapter discusses the humanistic appeal reflected in the dissemination process from literary works to movies. This chapter mainly focuses on the study of the deep reflections of modernization dilemma and humanist concern in the alienation world by centering on the analyses of the movies which reflect the the gloomy reality of low class life caused by material desires and further illustrates the ecological environmental damage and the moral decay issues as reflected in the movies.The second chapter analyses the value identity through the movie dissemination process of the literary works. In the circumstance of the complicated and diversified cultural environment, under the influences of different factors of political, economic, cultural aspects as well as the personal aesthetic preferences of the directors, movie dissemination of literary works in terms of value identification shows the following distinctive features: first, facing the modernization brought about by the reality predicament, some directors tend to identify themselves with traditional Confucian moral values. Second, with the deepening of China’s film industry market mechanism, commercialization and entertainment have become the dominant tendency of film production, under the circumstance,the Chinese “big movies” with "the intensified visual spectacle” inspired by the commercial factor appear frequently. Third, many movies made from the literary works pay more and more attention to the value of individual life.The third chapter examines the gender orientation in the dissemination movies of literary works in the new century. Based on the influence of gender, culture, the audience and other factors, male and female directors show their different interpretations of literary female consciousness. The female directors tend to subvert the traditional film roles of men and women to "see" and "be seen" relationship, propose the construction of female discourse space, and strengthen the female consciousness in literary works. While the male directors pay less or no attention to the female consciousness in the movies.The main reason for this difference lies in the male consciousness both in the minds of the male directors and audiences.The fourth chapter discusses the post modern spirit of the movies made from the literary works in the new century. After entering the new century, in an open and diverse cultural environment, many films show a distinct post‐modern style by highlighting the “deconstruction of the mainstream " culture and " manufacturing of carnival spirit. The former is reflected in the the deconstruction of the mainstream discourse, and the release of the vitality and the instinctive desires. The latter is shown in a kind of carnival ceremony and carnival spirit. In addition, in the information age, with media deeply involved in, and control of the people’s life, media acts as the role of "creating" virtual reality and trigger violent carnival. A common story is processed into a typical post modern style of carnival film.The fifth chapter studies the narrative style in the movies made from the literary works in the new century. It main analyzes three movies narration types: First, the traditional plot narration, this type of narration draws more experiences from the traditional literary narration by following its development of linear time process in the story. Second, the fragmentation of modern narration. It breaks the conventional narrative ways with frequent shift of time and space. Third, the referent rhetoric narration. rhetoric reference in literary narrative affects text meaning and the construction of meaning.Above all, the media convergence status in the new century will further affect the approaches and the ways of movie dissemination of literary works, and in the trend of cultural industry, literature and movies in the film and television industry chain will result in more close cooperation and common prosperity, and achieve a win‐win effect.
