The Research About The Relationship Of Six Dynasties’ History And Literature

Six Dynasties was a period of disunity, instability and warfare, but it was considered as one of the most important periods that ancient literature was greatly developing and wildly thrilling. During this period, literature and history has been separating and leading to independence and self-consciousness but it was still interacting each other on the root. My dissertation aims to profoundly discuss the complex relationship between history and literature in Six Dynasties. It starts with bibliography, investigates the existing historical records of this special period and all those rest on firm document foundations. Then, it meticulously and thoroughly analyzes the relationship between literature and historical texts which are chose from the most distinguishing history segment in the background of Six Dynasties.This thesis is divided into seven chapters, among which the first chapter set example ofPei Songzhi’s Analects of the Record of the Three Kingdoms, explores the relationship between historical criticism and literature which discuss from the perspective of Pei’s historical criticism, his literature works and the literature orientation of Analects of the Record of the Three Kingdoms. It points out that the common sense of Six Dynasties--- historical works must be beautiful and elegant in style; otherwise, the author would be scorned. This chapter also provides theoretical basis for the whole thesis. The second chapter discusses the relationship between official history and literature in Six Dynasties which is consisted of four parts:the text ofSong Annals, the bibliography of Song Annals, and the relevant literature criticism and literature activities. And all those were influenced by Six Dynasties’　art and literature principals. The third chapter focus on the influence that Wei and Jin Dynasties shed on Zuo si’s San Du Fu and its creation in the opposite perspective of the time axis. It proves that Zuo si’s faithfulness in writing greatly influenced by historical works which help him achieve significant success in San Du Fu creation There is a appendix named On the Style of simplicity in History-Writting of Jin Dynasty, which says the simplicity popular in writing historical works of Jin dynasty were not only affected by Confucian classics, but also deeply influenced by metaphysics, especially the debate between Speech and Meaning in metaphysics.The next three chapters focus on the same theme, there are investigations of most characteristic description of region histories and miscellanea. For example, Local records of Jingxiang detailedly states the relationship between Local records of Jingxiang and literature on the basis of relevant bibliography. Since it rich in describing beautiful scenery and engagingly short stories, full of cultural ambience between the lines, obviously it was greatly affected by literature principals of Six Dynasties. Yi Wu Zhi (异物志) in chapter six also detects the origin and developing situation of Yi Wu Zhi in Six Dynasties, it considers that the original text of Yi Wu Zhi were:firstly, Shan Hai Jing and its relevant literature works; secondly, official history records of foreign lands. Yi Wu Zhi appears as the Six Dynasties, especially Yong Wu Fu’s writing provides the material, broadening the bourne, and literature of the Six in the Yi Wu Zhi’s writing, it is mainly in the literary to be strengthened. Chapter VI, respectively, from the Hui Jiao’s The Biography of Eminent monks of the text, The Biography of Eminent monks of bibliographic and Hui Jiao revealed in the literary talent of great importance for the three major aspects, the book demonstrates the close correlation between the Six Dynasties Literature relationship.Chapter seven is study on the acceptance history of Goldsmith Biography, inspects the Six Dynasties’ history influencing on the mentality field of Gentry Group at that time. Thirdly, describing the creation motivation of Goldsmith Biography from the perspectives of "Wei Wo" and "Jian Ai", and in the last part, probing the relationship between Goldsmith Biography and the literature in Six Dynasties by set the example of Ji Kang, Ruan Ji and Tao Yuanming.The last chapter is a conclusion: literature in Six Dynasties mainly shed influence on historical works in form, which apparently features are:be rich in well-turned phrases, provided mentally enjoyable, characterized by parallel constructions, and narrated in vivid descriptions; on the other hand, historical works in Six Dynasties provides great support to literature both in subjects and contents, greatly extend its realm. Just like Goldsmith Biography and other representative historical works that inherited the essence of literature classic and its creation methods. In a word, literature and history has a close affinity in Six Dynasties, but the former has more significant and obvious influence than the latter.
